Hi guys,

Would appreciate any views on whats the better motor? Is there a huge amount of difference performance wise between the Hartge H26 and the Alpina c2 2.7? If so, do you think a custome chip would help sort things out for the Hartge??

What do you think a fairly mint example of a Hartge H26 would be worth??

Geoff

Do you have a H26? there's an early one in this current edition of Total BMW, a genuine German car, and the pictures/spec are all given there. As to values, I'm not sure.

AG,

Yes I do have an H26, but its a 'G' plate 1990 model. I too have just bought the latest Total BMW, and i saw that article. But as its an older version, im thinking that it may have changed slightly over the years?? As for price I have no idea, but that guy i think paid like only £1500 quid for it as i recall. I do think mine is worth considerably more than that. I did post a couple of pics, are they still posted? (Sterling Silver)

Geoff

Are you a Car Club member at all? Only reason I ask is the Alpina registrar of the club has a vested interest in the Hartge brand as well, so he may be able to help more with your answer.

I imagine, as your car is the later model, mechanically it would be similar to the earlier one featured, with a later shell (btw, he did the photographs for TBMW for that shoot, and said it's better than it looks)

AG,

Im not a Car CLub Member unfortunately, but that will change as soon as i have stopped spending my hard earnt pennies doing up my Hartge H26 to excellent condition. I have just cleaned te whole engine bay so it now shows a nice and shiny silver background to the now Spearex red painted manifold and Hartge Blue Rocker cover with polished alloy stripes!! Looks lovely.

I'll certainly take on board your info, thank you. Performance BMW and BMW Car are published only a few miles from my home so once its up to scratch looks wise, im gona try and blag a feature of some nature.

Keep ya posted.

Hi Ian, just got around to looking at your H27, i must say it looks absolutely mint!! V nice indeed. Im in the process of restoring mine because i bought mine from the Isle of White, and it had been standing for about 8 months or more. Needless to say it has had its fair share of rust on it, which is all but gone now. The spec on my H26 is

Light Head - Hardened valves

Hartge sports camshaft (not as wilder a degree cam as yours)

Performance six branch manifold with headers

Full straight through exhaust

Billstein supension all round

Drilled discs front

Solid rears

If you are in contact with TOTAL OR PM BM, lets do a combined article on the H26 and H27, gotta be of interest SURELY !!!!! Also check out on eurocarparts bmw forum - they are organising a big day out on 13.7.03 at Bruntingthorpe (old raf base near Leicester) some 30 plus nice cars going, but places going quickly.

Gareth, you do realise that when i get round to doing the valve stem oils seals the head is going to come off. I may be tempted to put a 2.7 crank in, poss a schrick cam............then we'll see who can "catch me if you can"

I would choose the Hartge over the Alpina if only for that exquisite exhaust manifold.

You will not find another example of stainless steel artwork like it on any other BMW.

Dont let it tarnish, keep it polished, take it off if you have to, but get it polished up and admire the 'bloom' that it will have developed.

Hartge used to do their own ecu chip back in the eighties, perhaps you can still get one.

... I really miss that old car, it probably had more character than my E30 M3 and that is saying something.

Is your car a genuine H26, prepared from new in Germany.. or like mine a 325 converted by 'Birds'.

Hi Guys, just seen all your chat, I own the White HARTGE H26s E30 Touring that was in Total BMW early last year in the snow..!!

It`s a 1990 model with all the work done by BIRDS UK, (1 OF 3) that they converted..so Kevin Birds tells me. It`s now done 78k and is a flying machine, it has a EH Auto box with Switchlogic fitted which is superb on country roads, it has a gas flowed head ie the "s", full suspension pack, extra clocks, alloy pedals, Hartge Steering wheel and 16" Hartge Alloys.

What more can I say...I love it, a wolf in sheeps clothing..!!

Regrads

Kevin
