I have a 98 318i SE saloon which I love.  when I brought it I was also looking at a Z3 same year.

Now, I am sure some of you guys and girls have had this before but I have had my 318 for long enough now and I cannot stop looking at the Z3 and wondering...what if ???

I drive 50 miles round trip to work a day and am tall (6'3), my question is, would I be silly to change to a Z3 ?

Are they as good as they look ?

I have heard bad stories about them but they are a BMW after all !

Any tipes, advice, 'don't be so stupids', would be much appreciated.

L.

Personally I quite like them, although in the carpark at work I noticed it was mostly women and middle aged men driving them. Convertibles are great fun but I'd look at the E46 convertible, they are good looking and you will have no practicality issues as there will be four seats and a decent boot. Just my opinion !

I think the Z3 is Ok. I would go for one with a bigger engine though. No point in buying a sports car it it isn't fast! the 2.8 or a later 3.0 would be my choice.

I'm 6'2" and i took a 1998 Z3 2.8 for a test drive last summer.

Excellent with the top down, loads of poke ..... but it was a joke with the roof up. The seats just didn't go down or back far enough.

My advice would be a nice n tidy 323i E36 convertible

Hi all,

Thanks for all your advice and reply's, much appreciated.  I think I will go for a new'er coupe or an older 3 series convertable.

Z3 is off the cards and maybe a Z4 when I get to 35 and can afford one!

L.
