I suspect that you didn't get it from that address (Howard Walker) but it was sent from someone who 'spoofed' that email address. Given that your email address is displayed in your sig, it is available to every *****ng spammer and virus sender who have harvesting software that trawl the internet.

Anyway, regardless of the sender you should always have an up-to-date virus scan. If it was updated a week ago, thoeretically it is out of date as new viruses come out daily but you possibly will be fine. However, if it has never been updated then it is of absolutely no use. I use AVG free which I update every few days.

I also use a program called Mailwasher (run before outlook express) which allows me to check the emails on the mailserver, and if there are any dodgy ones I can delete them from the server. I can also send a bounced email message back to them creating the impression that my email address doesn't exist and hopefully they remove me from their list.

Just so everyone can see this thread Im moving it to the announcements & feedback forum.

I've had a few "viri" ( is that the plural for virus ?) supposedly from other club members.

It has normally been sven32, norton catches and duffs it.

I'd always taken the opinion ( I think some clever dick told me !) that if anyone gets this sort of thing on their computer it can send to anyone listed in the infected computers address book, and can make anyone of those addresses appear to be the sender.

Is there any truth to this Killian old bean ?

Best Wishes

Nigel

I always check my mail online with my ISP and notice too many potential virus carrying email....they are fortunately in the Bulk Mail file, but some are still getting through. If I dont know the company or the person, I delete. Simple.

Nigel is correct that many virii have the ability to access the infected persons address book (and possibly the inbox or sent items box) and sent the virus onto every email address there.

Furthermore, they can use the identity of one of the email addresses to appear as the sender.

Given that most virii target Micro$oft products (esp. Outlook Express)  so if you use Micro$oft products you have to be extra vigilant.

I didnt actually think it was a deliberate sending. And my McAfee picked it up (worm)

As Kbannon said, people can make it appear that its from a certain person.

Was just trying to make people aware.

(Oh and I need my email in my sig as in the "wanted" ad you cant really read it )

Speaking of which - is 27951 bytes - this adds to the download time for dial-up users. Try and reduce the file size.
