Just looking at the ebay link above again I paid some attention to the title What does it say about BMWs when they are grouped with Saxos, Corsas & small Pugs? |

The more pictures i see the more i like it. Now i dont like 5 door hatches, but in comparison to others it does look good. CAR magazine (which i had a quick look at at work) has a fairly big feature. Could be most important car of the last 30 years...!?!?! They seen to think there will be 5 possible bodyshapes, although the coupe will be a 2-series and likely to spawn an M2 with a 250bhp 4cyl engine! Other than the coupe (2-series) there will be a cab, 5 door hatch, 3 door hatch and somethgn else i cant remember right now! As my mum claims that my arenst two 3-series are too big (apprently the 330ci is bigger than the 320d saloon... hmmm!) theya re looking at trading both cars in for a 330d for dad and a basic 1-series for my mum. I believe the car wasnt designed directly by Bangle, but he now over sees BMW Group design. Promoted out of the way perhaps?! |

I reckon the 1 has more similarity to a 5 dr Alfa 147, particularly the rear door shutline & window. What I like is the nose - the way it sticks straight up reminds me of 70's & 80's Beemers - a bit old-school... maybe. The curved sill line adds some bit of detail to what would otherwise be a fairly boring looking machine from the side too. All in all, a bit of a disappointment outside, very nice inside, but the fact it's a Golf/focus/Astra sized car with RWD means it's cool by me - and I reckon the other derivatives such as the 2 series coupe etc.. will be spot on. 2.3L 2 series 4 cylinder 240bhp anyone? |

I think the 1 series is one of the most ugly cars I have seen in a long time. So it may be rear wheel drive and it may be great to drive but I would rather stick my head in a blender than pay 16K for something that looks like it was designed by a chimp.

*LMAO* Good man Peter! I had a look at the CAR article and photos last night and I think perhaps I was a bit generous above - my thoughts on the 2-series coupe remain - I think (from sketches and so forth) that it'll make the shape work. The hatch is a bit of a minger though. |
