Im in the clarts financially, loss of income due to unforseen circumstances means that the toys have to be put back in their boxes. Im now in the unfortunate position of having to sell my 635 CSi which was going to be this years project. I need assistance to place a value on it, I dont want to overprice it as I would love the car to go to a like minded enthusiast who can finish what I have started. Basics, 1983, A, 635CSi Auto in Opal green metallic. Bodywork is 75%, rear arches below trim line ahead of wheels need attention, not catastrophic though, other little nicks and scratches. Importantly, front inner and outer wings are solid. I had planned to do a full respray on the car doing most of the prep myself and having it repaired and repainted professionally, I budgeted for £1000 to do this which would return the car to pristine condition. Mechanics are 95%, perfect engine (134K) and gearbox, prop good as is diff, just had a small fortune spent on mechanical restoration. Cylinder head gasket, water pump, thermostat, radiator, centre prop bearing, starter motor, fuel tank and sender unit, oil pressure sender unit all just been replaced with new parts. To bring it to 100% it needs a couple of ball joints on the front and a couple of minor bushes in the rear suspension. Easy jobs and cheap enough to do. Interior is 90%. Black leather Recaro trim, couple of minor and I mean minor repairs need to one front seat to bring it back to 100%. Needs a trip computer to be pedantic. Air con actually still works. Fitted with TRX cross spokes and the tyres have some life in them as well, I had planned to go the 17" AC Schnitzer route for approx £700 with tyres to be honest and pull the TRX's, get them refurbed and keep them for shows. All in, a very solid and genuine 635 that only needs a minor refurb to bring to 100% condition. All of the hard mechanical resto stuff has been done at big expense by a well respected local specialist (with receipts!) So folks whats it worth?

Without seeing the car it is difficult to say, but it sounds from your description its in pretty good condition. It also has a good spec. I would say the car would be in around 3-4k as it stands assuming the car has Full or near full service history, and if all bodywork is sorted it would be nearer 5-6k. But it all comes down to what someone is prepaired to pay for it. If you sell it to an enthusiast you will probable get a little more for it then via say ebay or the trader.

Having just read the posting from "Sohlman", I'm afraid I beg to differ. Based on that description alone, and without benefit of photos, anywhere up to £1750, but no more. £3k to £4k "as it stands" is hugely optimistic at best; at worst, it's a gross overvalue. Remember someone has to finish the work. By way of comparison, I offer the example of a 1984 635CSi, identical colour and markings as mine, 84,000 miles (if I remember correctly), FSH, and pretty much original; indeed, near perfect. That car has been for sale in the Cambridge area for at least the past two years. Asking price? £4,000. And that's for a finished car. Two years on, the owner hasn't managed to sell it. I think I've got a spare "OBC 1" trip computer which I could dredge up. Are there any other possible flaws? You might want to consider putting it under wraps, or in sympathetic temporary custody with a fellow enthusiast (I'm sure "Sohlman" would be only too happy seeing as he has plenty of garage space! One more car won't hurt), until your income is restored. I had to do this when I was unemployed for a month... Edited by Horsetan |

Keep it coming folks. Ive already looked at the stick it under wraps thing, I have a friend with a large disused barn. Obviously I would prefer to keep the car as it took me ages to find this one after spending months looking at overpriced talked up tat! I have to admit that the £1750 figure is close to what I considered as reasonable, I had a figure of £2100 in mind. Im bloody annoyed that Im in this situation and having to consider selling up. Sohlman you have a pm. |

It was when you wrote "Bodywork is 75%", that I thought the car would not make more than £1750. There is enthusiasm, I grant you, but there is also enthusiasm bordering on naivete... The market value of Sixes has been low-ish for a long time; even the M635CSis don't always make it into 5-figure territory, judging by some recent adverts... A G-plated 1989 "Highline" came up for grabs in Wembley a week or so ago. Apparently fully loaded. £1300. But no MoT or tax, and using the Ross Harris Experience, who knows "What Lies Beneath"??? This is the problem with classics. Values are hard to pin down. We could of course all band together and artificially inflate prices or something like that. Joking aside, I still believe that if the car is right then people will pay the right price. Imagine the difference if I presented my example as a pristine model which has just underwent a full photographic restoration, etc, etc. So we are talking about a 100% fault free car here. OIRO of £6k are invited.Bet it would sell! |

This would also mean you having to buy up every British Six in existence in order for price maintenance to succeed.... oh dear.... |
