Hello, i'm a new BMW owner and have encountered a bit of a problem...

I own a BMW 318is Auto Coupe.  When I'm driving the gears change as normal untill i get to about 3rd gear, the rev's go to about 6 - 7'000 before the gears change into fourth.

Does anyone know what is causing this?  I'm hoping its not going to be a whole new gearbox although i dont think it will be as the car is driveable.

I've seen this somewhere, on one of the other forums I think.

If I remember correctly it was to do with "oil pressure" in the gearbox, and an oil change / topping up was suggested.

Best Wishes

Nigel

I had very similar problems with the autobox on my Turbo Supra...that kept messing about with gearchanges initially then went onto dropping into neutral when at junctions etc, specially when cold.  Had to flush the fluid out, clean the filters and refill the box...pain in the behind to do, but it worked.

Seeing as my 6 has been in storage for 2 yrs I am flushing everything out of it, including the autobox, and starting afresh...never can be too careful.
