I was wondering what the octane rating for Shell V-Max petrol is. Is it worth the extra cost? Just tried it last week, but didn't notice any difference(except to my pocket)

V-max is 100 ron and is currently only available in Germany.
Hope it will come out in uk soon though.

Yes please!
Shell Optimax is meant to be 98ron.
BP Ultima is meant to be 97ron.
(and real leaded petrol is still available if you know where to look - but you need to take out a 2nd mortgage!) ouch!

They have V max in Ireland, I'll have to check the RON, if it's a 100 I'll defo give it a try!

I'd be carefull aboput trying that, my car says ron values from 91-98 only. mightcause some damage with 100ron?

I tried BP ulitimate recently and I must say I was inpressed. ROn is only 97 so I think it will work better on our older engines (S14) as they were only designed to run on 97.
It smells fantastic, just the way fuels used to before all this low emissions rubbish came into force.
Only 2p a litre more than optimax.

Funny you should say that!
I was using ShellO - 98ron, and was pleased with it, then I had to get petrol from a BP station, so tried BPU - 97ron, and it seemed that the old M3 was much more responsive.
I can't understand this???

 well maybe, but I'm sure BP Ultimate suit the car better as it seems to respond better.

I don't think there is any point in just buying it every now-and-again as you will still have some 95 ron unleaded left in the tank and lines.
To get the full effects you have to use it all the time. Over time the engine will stay effecient longer becuase of the cleaner fuels and retain its performance, unlike with normal fuel, which will clogg the engine because of all the nasty environmentally freindly rubbish added to it!

100 octane is sold at Silverstone for the racers and is �1.68 / litre! Cost me a fortune for half a tank
I try to use Optimax as much as poss and when I have to swap back to normal unleaded, there is a notable difference in pick up.

Trouble being that Shell garages are'nt on every corner over here and their pricing varies from sensible to robbin ******** making it hard to always run the car on it.

Where abouts do you live then Derek?
I live in Gloucestershire and the price seems to be hovering around the 82p / litre mark at the moment. Fairly reasonable in my opinion, considering the extra performance and economy you get.
