    Posted: 25-April-2004 at 19:01

I have a 1993 316i, and I had replaced my nsf wing with an 'original' wing bought form euro.

I would just like to know how much roughly a wing is from a dealer. I am going to call tomorrow, but I jut can't wait.

I paid around £130 for the 'original' from euros, and it fit perfectly. I need another as someone put a big dent in it while at a car park when i came back from a day shopping.

Cheers

I think i paid £150ish for a wing for my E36 a while back. I don't have the car anymore, so i can't check the old invoices...

Someone left a note on my windscreen. It read 'Parking Fine' that was nice

It is worth going for original as pattern parts may need tweaking for best fit, and in the long run it is better to go for the original.

I know friends who have bought pattern parts from places such as the Bodyshop Ltd, and it is tempting to buy as they are usually around 80% cheaper, but I would rather have the real thing on my car.

Have you had the pattern wing fitted? If so let me know how it went and how the fit was.

Cheers

The other good thing about buying a genuine part from a dealer is that they should get the right wing for your car from your chassis number. Particularly when you bear in mind there are two different wings, pre and post 96.

Having just replaced the wings on my old 5 series I agree with the "genuine would fit properly stance"....but....... £28 from euro,.................... £265 from the dealer.

I've got the pattern ones.

Best Wishes

Nigel

I think its crazy, if your having the wings fitted then the problem of fine tweaking is with the bodyshop, if your doing it yourself then youve got enough skill to make the wing look right anyway. Surely im not the only person with a half built car in his garage repairing and making panels from sheet metal ? (admittedly a mini, not quite a bmw !)

My e36 was badly looked after, and as a result requires 2 new sills, 2 new wings, and fitting and spraying. BMW want £188 +VAT for each sill, I got them delivered for £50 each including VAT, BMW want £150 for each wing, my e36 is a 1992 so its defenitly pre-96 and im paying £19 including VAT and delivery.

If there is a slight fitment problem, then ive saved more than enough money to get it sorted. People are always saying the same thing for my 1976 morris mini, that pattern panels are never right, so far all the panels ive had are pattern, and the biggest problem is they have too much metal on them. It takes about 5 mins with some tinsnips to sort out.

I suppose I am looking from the point of view that I spent less than £500 buying the car (bargain eh ?) so im not going to spend a fortune sorting it out, I spent thousands on my e30 318is, and didnt get much back when I sold it (although I could have asked for more based on the fact im still getting calls 3 months later !) I take a lot of pride in my cars, but there are limits to costs, companies seem to think that because its bmw they can charge a lot, and im quite confident that a lot of the cheaper parts and panels are just as good as the original, and when fitted and finished correctly with some loving attention I doubt you would be able to look at any of my cars and say they were worse, you probably couldnt tell what was original and what wasnt.
