hello everybody......I have just got myself a 325i coupe on a 1992 j auto which i bought privately, i have only had the car on the road for 3 days and there is a transmission light keeps coming on and off. The car has been to my local dealer for two days and they say there is nothing wrong with car. when the light comes on it puts me in get you home mode. one of my freinds say it might be the coils, so is there any one out there that can shed some light on this problem for me.

Welcome to the forum

Coils? I'm not up on Autos that much but if someone says coils I think of the coils in the engine that produce the spark for ignition.

Is it definately the transmission light? Can you describe it?

you have only just got the car - is the transmission oil level OK?

in my bmw manual, it says it is the telltale lamp for electronic shift control.its coming on during a journey so this means there is a fault.its the light on the left of your check light bmw says there is nothing wrong with my gear box or transmission, they think its 4,5,6 coils which are connected to the cylinders, are faulty and making the engine not run right which means its not changing gear properly.
