After almost completing the outside of my 1993 e36, I am probably going to change the wheels.

I live in west london where the speed humps are unlawfully high, hence i am not going to bother lowering the car. I already scrape over a few on standard suspension.

I would just like to know if I fit 17s to the car, firstly, would the car ride high, ie look like an off roader, and secondly would any modifications be needed, or can they just be put on in place of my original BMW 15s?

Cheers to everyone with any input!

I have a 1993 E36 Saloon

Putting 17s on won't change the ride height as long as you fit lower profile tyres so that the rolling radius stays the same. You will need 225/45/17 or 245/40/17 tyres (I think!). 17 inch alloys should fit straight on without any mods.

For the love of god please don't try to fit 255's at the back 245's maybe, even then might be a bit close to the arch...

Good luck

Thanks for all your input....

I just realised today that my rear left tyre needs changing, which unfortunately I have to change tomorrow, as I don't have the cash for a whole new set. My 2 tyres at the front are brand spanking new.

I plan to go for the 17s in a couple of months.....so anyone interested in 5 bmw 15" rims with 4 almost new tyres and one good tyre let me know. 1 out of the 5 rims is pretty messed up, but hey, it can be the spare. If anyone wants to know more, just post a reply.

I am going for 17" Lenso Shu's in silver. Tyre size 205/40/17. Anyone with any thoughts on these?

I am not going for 18s as I need to keep the car as driveable as possible, and due to the speed humps, I am taking the cautious route.

Cheers all!

17's sound good, and look nice. If you can stretch to it go for a bit more width at the back 225 would be better with 205 at the front OR just 225 all round!!!

I've got 18's going on mine, but i'm having a few minor problems with the 255 rubber for the back...the damn things just won't fit in the arches, so it's mod time for me...

225's at the back, and 205's at the front, sounds good.....I must check on that tomorrow

i do alot of tight turning, ie drive way.....do you have any idea if 225's at the front will affect my turning circle?

Cheers

I had Lenso SNs on 235/40/17 all round. I picked that size as that's one of the options which was factory supplied...

Tyre width shouldn't affect your turning circle at all unless you're being silly My 235s allowed full lock with no rubbing.

Thanks for the input.

Got my rear tyres changed today as the were almost illegal LOL

I was told Lenso SHUs can't be fitted to my BM. I was well gutted.....is this true? I also had my heart set on a remus twin pipe exhaust, and I was told these were crap, is this also true?

I am now probably going for a scorpion boxer type exhaust. Anyone know if these will fit into the m3 style rear diffuser with dbl cutout?

Cheers

Firstly the 225 at the front should be ok, depending on the offset, they may rub ever so slightly on full lock.

Secondly, yes a scorpion boxer does fit coz it's exactly what i've got with the double cut out on the rear m3 valance! It's a loud exhaust though, and whatever you do make sure that when they fit the exhaust, that they line it up parallel with the bumper and not the valance, the dip sticks fitted mine at an ever so slight angle and you can tell instantly and man it bugs the hell outta me everytime I see it...just me I expect

Not sure if you can, but see if you can get a porsche boxster style tailpipe instead, I wish I had...it's similar to the boxer, but flatter and slightly wider, can you picture it?

Good luck

Hi , I run 245/40/17s on my 91 325i and there are no steering problems whatsovever , ie tyre to body clearance.

The only problem I am having in regards to handling is that the steering is continually trying to take it's own course and needs permanent correction! This is nothing to do with tyre or rim size but hopefully related to the fact that when i bought the car, about 2 weeks ago , i noticed that the previous owner had a 235 and a 245 on the front! Different tread patterns and low on tread depth. All four tyres will be replaced will either 235 or 245s very shortly (ouch!) and hopefully this will correct the problem.

Only other problem at the moment is that the leccy windows and sunroof have decided to stop working...suddenly. Hopefully just the relay. Ive just purchased a manual for the car but the 'comfort' relay in the picture doesn't seem to relate to its said location under and behind the passenger glove box. So until i locate for definate , i have no way of knowing whether it clicks or not for further diagnosis.

All help welcomed. Cheers.

Right then , just bought a new relay for the leccy bits as the fuse was still intact .....no joy. Growler is now off to the auto-electricain tomorrow (Friday) as electrics have never been my strong point.

Hoped for some feedback , not to worry

I have 225's on the front of my 328i 95 - I get a slight rub on full lock, and I mean just on full lock.

I was told that when tyres of this size were fitted to E36's as an option, a blocker of some sort was installed on the rack to take the very end of full lock off.

I have been quoted £80 to have this supplied and installed, but I'm going to live with it.

Dan

Hi all,

Thanx to everyone for their input, the feedback was really helpful!

I have delayed on the rims, as I am going to get my car fully tinted and get a leather retrim done.

I am probably going to go for 225/40/17s at the rear, and 205/40/17s at the front, although, i have been told 40s is a hard ride.....could i get away with 45s?

Cheers!

Sinner,

Was just pondering about your probs....could be there is something wrong with the control unit. I know that when I had my clffiord installed, the guy done a few mods to the control unit, so that my alarm could close my windows as I did not have the total closure feature.

Apart from that, i don't know much about the electircs, although, like i said, my money is on the control unit which is behind the glovebox.

Good luck

Cheers xj , well I had considered that but had to eliminate the cheaper options first because I've been quoted £150 worth of ouch for that box.

Just seems weird the way it has given up with little sign beforehand other than a slow lifting drivers window for the last couple of inches. Also wondering if it's in any way related to the ciggy lighter(which was missing when I purchased the car)which I have replaced from my local breaker. Maybe there was a reason why the previous owner had left it out , someone been fiddling with wiring maybe! Well she goes in today and hopefullyI'll be able enjoy the summer without overheating.

Cheers anyway , and yes you're probably right , start a new thread re any other problems.

Ps: My link didn't work either , oh well....
