GSF will be a good starting point, other than that your local dealer should have something.
I had this problem once with an old injenction capri, the power steering belt seized, and stopped the engine.

As a follow up:

It turns out the aircon pump has seized, and seized so well it stopped the engine turning over!

Apparently the belt had to be cut off to move the car.

Any idea where the best place for a new one is and how much?

Tim

Hi everyone,

I’ve just got a phone call from my pa saying his E38 730i V8 has snuffed it!

Basically he went to fill up with fuel (a long task in this car!)  and the car wouldn’t restart. Apparently the engine wouldn’t turn over at all so the AA bloke tried to jump start it thinking the battery had died.

The starter turned slowly, drawing an enormous current and smoke started to appear from under the bonnet!

The general opinion seems to be that the prob is electrical (no kidding!), something like the starter motor shorting out. There were no warning signs, no bongs, no nothing.

I was just wandering if anyone has ever experienced something similar or has suggestions for other possible fried electrical components?

Also where is the starter on these beasts apparently its well hidden?

A fun weekend ahead for me…
