Hi,

I'm having real problems trying to sell my 97 318i SE, something I never thought would happen, OK it has 127k on it, but with climate, sunroof and all the other bits I didn't think 3995 was an excessive price, it also seems cheaper than the virtually all on the autotrader, etc. Any suggestions on the best place to sell it?

Does it have a FSH? if not then that might be the reason.

Other than Autotrader you could try a local paper or even ebay.

Sounds too cheap!, serously put the price up!

Most people are wary of cheap cars, always think something is wrong with it etc, OK it's got high miles, but assuming it's got some / all of the service history then add £1k to the price and see what happens.

yep, full service history, BMW main dealer to 80k, then normal places right up to 124k last service, MOT till April, 6mths tax too.

Tried autotrader at 4695 and 3995 previously with no joy, struggled to 2900 on ebay, now in free ads at 3750

Will try the higher price if that doesn't work!

a friend of hers has one and she loves it, she prefers the higher driving position and the hatchback to the 3

Oh well, could be worse.

I have just been looking on ebay and it does appear that people aren't getting as much for there BMWs these days. Saw a 98S 318 with 87K which had only got to £3800. There was a 323SE with leather, climate control etc, 101K, 97P that hadn't got any bids at all with a starting price of 4K.

Maybe the market is a bit flat at the moment. It certainly seems like a good time to be buying, although this isn't much help to you.

definately flat at the moment, when I wanted to buy it I couldn't find any R reg's with aircon for less than 4500, at that was only in March. Now when I need to sell it, theres loads of the damn things everywhere! - just my luck!

Looks like I'll be keeping hold of it for a while longer than expected

I agree with Peter, it could be VERY much more worse.

A classes are naff, wouldn't use back seat for anything other than shopping, suspension is supposed to be rubbish as well. When they first came out they used to tip over. You are only paying for the badge. Plus I've read that the service price is high and parts cost a fortune.

Rhys,

All due respect, but have you actually driven one as all you've mentioned here is what you've heard?  They're actually a lot better than the Picasso, Scenic, etc and meets our needs well, the suspension is OK, the falling over thing was at the very extreme and was sorted out just after first release.

You're no more paying for the badge than you do with a BMW, and thats one of the reasons we buy these cars isn't it at the end of the day?

Well, surprise surprise she's forgot about the A Class and gone and put a deposit down on a 3yr old Peugeot 307 this weekend!

So now, I have to sell the Beemer as soon as I can, so if you know anyone in the market for a 318iSE R plate, its 3695ono now, give me a call!!
