Yeh, BMW dealer prices for oil, i asked my dealer yesterday how much theyre oil was, the guy says £14 plus "the VAT" per litre!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i almost laughed at him!  Changin the oil on my 325i at £14 per litre, i think not!!!!!! This might sound a bit strange but Vauxhall garages sell 10w-40 semi synthetic very very cheap and ive been told by a vauxhall techy person its either Valvoline or Castrol thats branded vauxhall,  i got 5 litres for £12!!

Yes, it uses a drop in paper filter.

This is DIY stuff - though £35 isn't bad for Mobil 1.

cheers guys

Went to Kwick fit today and they say they will charge me £35.00 for a oil change and oil filter using mobil 1 with fully synthetic...but they can't find my car on their list....

SO they think it uses a paper filter and have to order it...maybe better if i get a filter from bmw for them to fit.

ANd let them change the oil......

Cheers for your help, i go into bmw garage see how much it cost for a filter and what oil they use for their motors.

Only use a 10W40. Use a fully synthetic since you car is new and you give it welly. Mobil 1 is good!

And they work really well...

As for oil, a good quality semi synthetic should do well (like magntec) I would have thought, I don't believe these engines were designed to run on fully synth so don't think there's much to be gained - it will last longer but the semi is cheaper and good for 6000 miles or so.

My God! Don't take it to Kwik Fit!! Just change the oil yourself if you're worried about the cost. I seriously doubt that Kwik Fit have the service light reset tool, but I could be wrong. The reason the dealer cost for the oil change is so high is because there is quite a long list of other tasks which are performed during an "oil service" and BMW dealers charge a lot for labour.

Last time mine needed an oil service, I just got the dealer to reset the lights and did the change myself (obviously they didn't stamp the service book, but on a 16 year old car it's not that important).

Also, if I were you Chris, I'd trust the service lights - They do take account of driving conditions. There's no point in going mad with the oil changes, unless you are planning to keep the car until it's done 200,000+ miles!

Hi guy & gals

I'm taking my wee dakar yellow compact to kwick fit for a oil change, it still got three green lights before servicing but been kicking it abit and want to gave the engine some refresh oil...

So i was wondering what oil you guys got in your bemmers for example fully or semi-oil and what grade 10w-40 and what the best for my M44 engine?

I think Kwick fit uses mobil 1 so that should be okie not sure on what grades etc and is a kwick fit oil filter fine or should i buy one from the bmw garage.

Bmw charges way to must for only a oil change i think if i correct £100 odd quids!!!!

Cheers guys and gals

Chrissss
