I just thought I'd drop a quick note in on the subject of hunting at low revs / idle, as this has been the subject of a few posts previously.  I have had this problem on my '89 535 (167k) and seem to have made it disappear.  Perhaps less than astonishingly, the cure was a damn good servicing (it worked on Mrs S, so I thought I'd give it a go on the car!); I changed the plugs and leads, oil and filter, and replaced the grimy looking air filter with a K&N replacement panel filter.

Apart from a very occasional dip when I pull straight up from a banzai session, it seems a lot smoother and I don't get hunting anywhere near as much as I didi before.

I'm probably preaching to the converted, if so I apologise for wasting thirty seconds of your time, but the lesson is keep those services regular and your car will love you for it!

Hi! My M20 had an evil sounding rough idle. I changed the ICV, various sensors, spark plugs etc. No joy. Then I found I had an oil leak on the rocker cover gasket - was sucking air in! I agree with you Jimbonic, keep the car serviced and you'll never be let down.

Cheers,

Shaun
