Now I've got the headlamps and wash/wipe going, I thought I'd move on to the next problem: electric memory seats. The controls allow adjustment of:

- Seat angle
- Seat forward/back
- Seat up/down
- Seat back angle
- Head restraint height
- Thigh support

All of these controls work fine but the memory doesn't work. I've had the car for 3 years and it's never worked.

On page 33 the manual states:

"There is a recessed contact for programming and a pushbutton for selecting each program.

Programming: select the desired seat position at the pushbutton panel. Press in the contact with a ballpoint pen. While the program is being memorized, the green LED will flash briefly.

Selecting program before engine is started: press the appropriate pushbutton (1,2 or 3) briefly. The green LED will come on until the programmed seat position has been reached.

The red LED comes on to indicate malfunctions. If the position memory fails to operate, the electic front seat adjustment can still be operated at the pushbutton panel."

When pressing the recessed contacts, nothing happens (no flashing green LED). Similarly, when pressing the buttons, nothing happens. The red LED is also off. I've removed the control panel from the seat and all electrical connections seem to be fine. Also checked the fuses - again no problems here. Can anybody suggest where to look next?

Many Thanks

Only joking, but the car is 15 years old now. The circuit controlling the seat "memory" has probably contracted Alzheimer's....

I believe you have to have the ignition on when you're setting the memory.

Also, I think you have to keep your finger on the preset button until the seat moves into position.

I'll check mine out & see how it works.

Yep, you need the key in position 1 before it accepts the memory position.

Thanks for the help Andy - but mine does nothing  I guess it's a job for the likes of Munich Legends. I don't fancy stripping the seat down myself.

To be honest, I wouldn't bother. It's not as if it's a major part of the car.

Any auto-sparky should be able to sort it out if it really bugs you.

The seat is only held down by 4 bolts. Take 'em out & have a look underneath for loose connections etc.
