New member with an old problem on my 1994 525tds SE.

Starting from the key became erratic and eventually failed, it would start every time with a screwdriver across the battery and solenoid terminals.

I have resorted to fitting a bypass cable from the solenoid to the ignition switch which works every time.  A wiring diagram in a Haynes manual covering cars to '91 shows a relay in this circuit (black/yellow cable). I have hunted throughout the car for a relay with black/yellow cable to no avail, can anybody please tell me where it is?

The most common places to look would be behind the glove box, under the rear seat, in the engine bay passenger side under the black plastic cover or worse case scenario around the steering column (take off the shroud and look in the vicinity).

I would help in further detail but the 535i that i own is different to any of the lower engined models and yet again down to what options were on each car as to common placement of items.

hope this helps
