£6500 is about right for a quick sale, with 120k the car trades about 5k, I know you have had a new engine fitted but "the car " has done 120k,
good luck.

You've got to bear in mind that the used car market is a bit flat at the moment and a lot of cars are going for a lot less than their book price. Also at the moment with petrol being so expensive people are less likely to be interested in a big engined car.
According to Parkers the value of the car for private sale is between £7600 and £7950 depending on whether it's a P or an R. Also these prices are for a 70K milage. Since you have done 120K yours will be worth less, new engine or not.

UK
From a buyers perspective, they see a car with 120k first off and may then think that it looks well on it, but the first thing they see is 120k.
As to value, I think a few guys have hit it on the head with the £6.5k figure and your own figure supports that. In the trade, the difference in value at that age for the same car with different mileages will be about £50-60 per k miles, so compared to a 70k car then the difference is going to be £2.5 to £3k. Going on your figure of £9k for a 70k car, then you are looking at £6-6.5k retail. Selling it privately, you'll be looking at less.
Allow a certain amount for the condition of your own car and the guys probably aren't too far wrong. The figure mightn't make pleasant reading, but its probably realistic.

Hi
I'm in trade. If the car is straight I reckon you may squeeze £7k. Just as an example I've recently bought a 1 owner 1997 6 speed manual with 34K and full BMWSH for £9250.
cheers
