Brake Thicknesses

   Having just bought a 98 S reg  E39 523i SE I want to check my brakes, but I don't know the minimum thickness of the front pads and discs and the rear pads and discs.
There is no Haynes manual out for this car so I am at a loss as to how to find out what the minimum thicknesses are.
Can any one tell me what the minimum pad and disc thicknesses are please?

	Andrew, I've a e39 and the min thickness for the front rotor is 20.4mm I've my new one's ready to put in this weekend, measured mine down at 18.7 Don't know the min thickness of the rears, but it would be expected normally,,, normally the front's to carry the brunt of the wear over the two axles, there is less brking power on the rear axle, to prevent inherent locking up, also, the solid disc on the rear is less likely to fracture than the ventilated front rotor If your changing the rotors, i'd advise you to change the pads on that axle as a matter of course, and allow the new pad's to bed with the new rotors.
