Hi guy's

Brake lining's were well down lately and the dash light came on and did it's job.

Last weekend I replaced the front disc's, pads, sensor, also the rear pad's and wear sensor.

My expectation on completion of the job was to find the lining symbol on the dash go out, however it didn't untill the car had driven some mile's.

Does anyone know if this is normal, does the cuircuit monitoring the bake lining's only do random check's at say every 40 or 50 miles driven?

in any event it's gone out, but I'm left curious.

Car is an E39 Yr2000

As far as i am aware its realtime otherwise it would be a bit pointless to come on and then people think that they have x miles on the brakes before the light goes out or the brakes fail. When replacing the sensors the circuit should be opened again until such times as the brakes wear down again and close the circuit.

The only thing i can think of is that they were not put back in exactly how they should have been and the mileage you have done has either seated them properly or as you say there is some kind of check going on after replacement.

Russ

Joe,

I had this same problem just after I bought my E34.  The guy I bought it from told me he'd recently replaced the pads (which was evident from the large amount of pad left !!).  I had the brake linings warning come up several times, especially in the wet, but it hasn't recurred for 4-5 months now.  So, my guess is that Russ is right and that the sensors have just settled in.

I'm gonna try and get mine right next time they need changing!

I'd be able to answer that for ya but it looks like my Bentley manual has gone down in some banana boat somewhere in the Atlantic....

from amazon? I ordered an E30 bentley about February of this year. I eventually had to contact amazon in May/June as it hadn't arrived and the vendow wasn't returning my mails. Furthermore, I had recieved a mail bag full of journals for various university libraries in the UK from what appeared to be the same vendor.
Anyway, the credit card was refunded the book cost & postage.
A few weeks later the book arrived!

Joe, to answer your question, you should have turned the key to position II for >30 secs (Do not start), then turn off and it will reset.
