Its a '88, E30, 325i 2 door Coupe. I think its got a 64 litre tank. The fuel warning light came on and I have filled it to the brim and got 48 litres in leaving 16 litres left. I posted this question before I filled it, but I'm still not convinced of the size of the tank.

I reckon the size of the tank on them is probably correct but the error is more than likely in the way its measured as the gauge can't be that accurate plus their all old now. should be safe going by about 20-30 miles i think as far as i've found anyway.

It could be that you have the smaller 55 litre tank fitted.

1988 was the year BMW started fitting the 64 litre tank, so it's possible that yours went down the production line before they started.  Also, don't forget that the car was probably manufactured a few months before the initial registration.

Add that to the fact that you only managed to get 48 litres into the tank after the light came on and I'd say it's a safe bet that you have the smaller capacity.

It's true what they say though....size doesn't matter !!!!!
