How does the forum remember who I am?

I log in when I access the forum, but as soon as I navigate to another page within the forum, it forgets who I am (I get Hello Guest rather than Hello ///M5 at the top left of the page.)

I have Auto Login set in my profile and I'm using IE6SP1 on Windows XP.

Sounds like a cookie problem to me. M cars rule!

Wonkydod is correct.

I assume you are using Internet Explorer.
Go to tools up above and select 'Internet Options...'. A dialog box will appear with a number of tabs at the top - select Security. From this then select Custom Level and you will see information about cookies (options) - choose enable (for both cookies stored on and per session cookies).

Problem should then be solved.

Yes, I am using Internet Explorer (IE6.0SP1, as mentioned in my initial post) under XP.

In this version, you actually configure cookie handling under Tools | Internet Options | Privacy. I currently have this set to accept First-Party Cookies but to block Third-Party Cookies. I do have Always Allow Session Cookies enabled. Unless the site is using Third-Party cookies (and if so, why?), I don't understand why my identity keeps getting forgotten.

Also: Even though I enable E-mail Notify me of Replies whenever I post, I have never yet received an email when somebody has followed up one of my posts. I have double-checked my profile and the email address is valid.

The site doesn't use 3rd party cookies - just your regular type so there shouldn't be a problem. The settings are correct AFAIK. Does anyone else here use IE6 (or earlier) and know of this issue.

It is for reasons similar to this that I try to steer clear of Microsoft products and use Opera for a lot of surfing.

With regard to the email notification - it is configured to allow emails be sent out so again Im stumpfed - anyone else getting this prob?

Cheers
Killian

Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I do have this set in my profile. I also have my browser set to always allow cookies from bmwcarclub.co.uk
