Hi Guys,

For the past 3 days upon start up I can smell petrol in the cabin, the smell remains for about a 1 mile then disappears. Its not coming through the vents and I checked the fuel hose which is secure and not leaking - any ideas??

Thanks

West

Hi West, I take it you have no holes in the exhaust system(apart from the one or two at the end) as this can give a fuel smell in the cockpit whilst the engine is cold!!

I was plagued by this for months, in my case it turned out to be some pipes on top of the tank that had perished, my mechanic mate spotted it when he was getting my car ready for the mot.

In my case it was worse when the tank was full, and like yours went after the car was moving, it would also be apparent on a hot day around the back end of the car.

I'm afraid it was a tank out job.......did he cus......it was full !!!

Hi,

Its a new exhaust so I doubt its that. I'm having the car serviced in 2 weeks so I'll get them to check the tank hoses then.

I've also just noticed that my reversing lights arent working, all the fuses are fine - is the most likely cause the sensor on the gearbox?

Thanks for your help guys.

do your fog lights work ??

also check your number plate lights

its always worth checking the loom where it is attached to the boot, as you open and close the boot you bend the harness, eventually it breaks, I cut out the part on the boot hinge, and replaced with some nice tri-rated (floppy) wire

all the rear lights work except for reversing, but I'll check the loom to make sure its ok.

Thanks
