Anyone know a good place for Wiper blades other than BMW main agents?

Halfrauds don't do blades for E39's, well my local one doesn't.

Any particular make to be recommended, Bosch or BMW?

Thanks

Andrew,

I've always got mine off ebay.  There's a guy on there sells the genuine Bosch ones for £12.99 (inc P&P)!!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=28641&item=7904087921&rd=1&ssPageName=WD1V - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category =28641&item=7904087921&rd=1&ssPageName=WD1V

He's always advertising them, and at that price I replace mine before they wear out.

Will blades for an E39 fit my E34 or did they change fittings, blade size etc. I got blades from Halfrauds for my car but I would like the ones the guy is selling on Ebay.

Thanks Rob

I read that guys ebay site and he says that they are unique to the E39 so that means that any other aftermarket ones will be few and far between and probably dear too!

Will bear it in mind but unfortunatley I need a pair tomorrow for Saturdays drive to Mallaig and back.

I thought wipers were kind of universal (assuming corrrect size) as they had various pieces within the apck to fit different wiper arms.
Im obviously wrong!

Yeah I had thought that too but when I went to Halfrauds recently there were non at all that would fit an E39 but that may just be Halfrauds.

The E39 ones look more complicated to change than other ones I have done, which may mean that these adapters won't fit.

Hi Ian, I emailed the guy on Ebay & here's the reply

You asked:
"Hi, do you sell a set that will fit a BMW e34 Thanks"

hello yes we do supply the £24" blades to suit your e34, please purchase the e39 wipers and add a note so we send you the correct ones, thanks

Looks like a bargain

Wipers Source Solved

My local Partco do Unipart Wipers for an E39 for £13+VAT for both front blades.

Didn't think that they would do them but....

That online part place has each wiper down as $23 each so if you were to buy a pair and convert to proper money you are still looking at about £25 for the pair.

A steeler will do them for 25.00

Euro Car Parts do them for 17.99

E-Bay - 12.99 inc postage (mine never arrived !)

All you need is a slim screwdriver or a thick paper clip or a key

Slide the plastic lock forward / drop the blades out / fit the new ones and relock the plastic bit not hard once you've learned how to do it

The parts guy in Morrisons showed me how to do it all I supplied was the 25.00 and a swiss army knife

Currently E38 - 740

Went to get them on my way back to the office and looked at the packet and the Unipart ones are for the E34 not the E39, Partco's lists have the wrong part number for E39 wipers so bee warned.

I need them tomorrow so I guess its off to the main $tealer!

Where did I leave my screwdriver

Now now, that wouldn't be Toxic's Beamer would it?

Come to think of it, I thought after my wiper blade fiasco about creeping around with a screwdriver looking for an E39

They soooo were knackered though!

Got a set of Bosch blades from Euro Parts in Glasgow for £13.10 inc VAT which must be about the best price I have seen on this forum without having to wait for a postman!  GSF wanted £14.90+VAT but didn't have them.  Tried to sell me a pair for the E34 though which were £21 something inc VAT

What a difference  I can now see where I'm going...does help so much....

I got a set a set from Halfords, Bosch item number 26/22B, IIRC about £14. One blade at 650m (passenger)and 2 x 550 blades (driver). I think the extra blade was an added bonus as the packaging just reffered to it being a double pack.

Dead easy to fit. Aout 30 seconds each.

Coming in late to this thread - I need a new set of wiper blades for my 2001 E39. Who makes the BMW ones as I've been most impressed with the factory fitted ones - namely they are very quiet and work extremely well and last a long while (mine are the original pair) and I'm a bit obsessive over clean glass

We have three E39's in my family and have discovered that the replacement Bosch blades do not provide a good enough fit even though they are of excellent quality.  After using them for just a month they squeal like a pig.

The BMW original ones are made by Valeo and work the best without the pig coming in for some action!

Thanks for that - Glad to save the pig some work

I can't stand juddering or squealing wiper blades. I was driven by a work colleague in his Citroen for 2 hrs in the rain with juddering and squeaking blades. I wanted to kill someone by the time I got back to the office

It was such a relief to get back into my car and all you could hear was the gentle swoosh on my drive home

I got a pair of wiper blades and a pair of micre filters for my e39 at the dealers last week - €70 the lot incl VAT.

Felt that that was a good price.

I bought some blades from Halfords - Bosch ones, for my E46 323 that I used to own.

They were crap, plus the spoiler on the drivers side wasn't right, incorrect shape/size which prooved a problem at speed in the rain!

I bought a drivers side blade from the dealer and kept the passenger side one from Halfords.

Seemed to work fine.

Main dealer stuff may be expensive, but it's correct!

I've just had my blades replaced by local dealer. I tried a few different types but ended up going back to the BM ones as they are definately quieter and also last longer and do a better job. Still £40 fitted was a little steep I felt!

I forgot to mention it, but even with my inabilities, the whole lot (wipers & filters) took a total of 2 minutes to replace!

Yes, I echo that.  The E39 wipers were the easiest ones that I have ever fitted on a car and mainly due to the lovely sliding clip.

My old car, 528i sport, had a broken clip which I was too lazy at first to change.  Then one day the wiper blade fell on to the window because the clip was in the unlocked position.  I soon found out when I started to wipe the screen clean in the morning on my way to Heathrow Airport.  It left some noticable scratches and I then felt compelled to change the broken clip and at a grand cost of 30p.

So please do ensure that your clips are locked and not broken causing easy sliding to the dangerous position.  Happy driving all!!!

My Bosch ones don't squeal at all and never have.  Might be to do with whatever it is you use to wash your windscreen with.

My Halfrauds now do an E39 Bosch set, they didn't when I started this thread.

I now could do with new wiper blades as these ones are beginning to fade at nearly a year old now.

The only thing wrong with that is the E39 Bosch blade set from Halfrauds is twice the price that it is from ECP!

Good blades right enough.

A local car accessories shop referred to a Champion catalogue when I enquired about blades and insisted that the e39 BMW only has one windscreen wiper, not 2 of equal length, just one.  Obviously, the second one on my car is from the extensive, and expensive, options list!

So this guy told you it had only one wiper?

The E39 doesn't have wipers of equal length either.  Sizes are 22 and 26 I think.  This is why places don't stock them as they only fit the E39 being of two different sizes.

Andrew

PS I hope you corrected the guy and referred him to your E39 parked out front!

The BMW ones are different for the left and right - they have different part numbers and one has R on it and the other has L!

Slightly different fitting, I think.
