My bm is making a ticking sound at idle and throughout the rev ranges. Sounds like a fords engine ie tappet sound. Has anyone else had this or have suggestions as to what it could be? 328i sport 74000 on the clock no nickasil probs. Just had oil change and it hasnt cured it. I have vanos on the car.

Could be a hydraulic tappet - these are common. Very difficult to say without hearing it.

Quite possibly the injectors as mine is noisy with the injectors - more of a clicking sound than tapping. Mine seem nosier when engine is fully warmed up.

My injectors are the same. The noise is only really noticable when the engine is warm.
