I need some help.

When lifting the clutch up quickly a huge rattling sound can be heard from the rear of the vehicle. It sounds as though the rear subframes gonna fall off, and is even worse when the clutch judders. Any advice? I have changed propshaft coupling, centre bearing, rear axle bushes, rear diff mount etc but its still there!

My last thoughts are that its either the small trailing arm bushes themselves or knackered driveshaft/diffrential output flanges.

Any advice much appreiciated!

Tried the rear subframe bushes. Extremely common fault on cars over 100k.

I've had these go on an E30 before and they also went on my Father's 518 and it sounds just like what you're experiencing. In the region of £120 from an independant BMW specialist, otherwise i've heard they're a real pig of a job to do yourself.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the advice. I have changed the rear axle carrier bushes but have had no luck.

Got underneath yesterday and grabbed the driveshafts - there seems to be some movement and if moved hard enough, a thud. Could this be the cause? I know some movement is required to take up the lash in the drivetrain.

Cheers
