Big up to Shorty for taking on 'Events'..

Perhaps we can organise a half dozen of us to focus on making a region DVD of our 2005 antics...

Who's up for it.. I know a couple of you have already made a start.. Steve also took some footage from a year back.

Perhaps Shorty should sit in to co-ordinate..

What do you think?

Nice.

If we can get 4 or 5 committed to this (pref with digi-cams and some time) then we can make the most of our annual events and sth to watch at the AGM...

Yip, still got all that footage. I'll even make a new years resolution to try and deliver the footage quicker than 18 months later!

count me in as well, i've got the old "disposable" hi-8 analogue camcorder, its used as a stuntman for the expensive ones, and its still surprisingly good quality despite being "old hat"

i do have the editing facilities though, including dvd burning so if i can be of help just shout loudly (preferably send me a pm or email, im more likely to respond )

i've made a start on the old crail footage from 2001, and i'll post my "numberplates have been obscured to protect the guilty" segment tomorrow when i get my ftp server links fixed

Nice.. so let's discuss at Perth meet and get sorted.. I guess everyone tries to bring their cams as often as possible to all club and other bimmer where club mbrs are present and also feed in any individual footage. Someone can then take charge of editing the DVD.

My effort will be to bring;

In car footage of any track events attended by M 8LUR..

Crail thrash days

2005 Britball (entered)

Suisse Z-Register trip in August

Mbrs can then buy this (paid up mbrs get small discount) and coffers can feed into region budget.. let's aim to get it all fed in and burned by next September/October so orders can be taken in time for next crimbo..

Any recent footage athat can already be edited?

How does that sound Shorty?

May I also propose to the committee that if this is a success (which I think it will be) that someone is officially appointed at the next AGM..

ya?

Thanks M3CSL.. be great to see the car in action.. especially with them new brakes. BTW Yoshi in the big black Lex Turbo wants a re-match.. he says you kept going into the pits when caught up with you.. Personally I think Yosh is kidding himself tho his car is pretty mean and not slow neither for its size.

Back to the thread.. There is potential for some superb bimmer action.. it's good to get a range of cars, sounds.. and scenery. Does anyone know how we can fix a mike so we can pick up the engine better? Normally most videos I see are dominated by wind-noise.. any ideas...

Stephen if you can take charge of editing that would be great. Everyone else can then send you footage so can you give out an email and correspondence address?

Cheers

The Lexus at the SSR trackday? I passed him at the hairpin as he almost came to a standstill lighting up the back tyres!

If he caught me up then hopefully I was on a cool down lap or my driving really is **** if I've got to worry about a Lexus on the track.

Yeah - he has no lsd.. hence the wheel spin..

Mate .. not as bad as you think.. it 's really an Altezza & has TRD suspension and runs the Supra twin-turbo lump giving 280bhp on low boost so not as slow as it looks.. but I'm sure you had no probs with him.

I did explain about the brakes and you were taking it easy.. he's very misguided about how fast M cars can be in the right hands.

Cheers m8.. so the Video Team as it stands right now is;

Shorty (Tommy) - Co-ordinator and committee liason

Stephenperry (Stephen) - Editor

M 8LUR (Jon B) - Contributor

Pete323 (Pete) - Contributor

M3CSL (Paul) - Contributor

330DSE (Steve) - Contributor

215M3 (Toby) - Contributor

Mell (Mell) - Contributor

Any other contributions greatly appreciated - please PM Stephen, myself or Shorty (Tommy) about details.

The aim is to make sure we attend each club event + bring in together footage and pass to Stephen to edit and check with Shorty (Tommy) as to events etc. I love it when  plan comes together.

We can then show the film at the next AGM and offer DVD copies to mbrs to raise funds.

Let's get the ball rolling ASAP in 2005. Perth meet looks a good target..

I've got footage of some of the Crail events, I take my old Digi camcorder to most events that are good spectator sports, I bought it for the purpose of using at club events.

If anyone's interested we also have good footage of the last go kart evening with some interesting commentary from Wendy!!! This could be used immediately as no plates need to be removed to avoid blushes.

you could have a mike inside the car to pick up the engine noise, or maybe even one under the bonnet?  might be tricky to wire up

what about those boom mikes with the furry covers you see the cameramen on the telly using, are they not meant to block out wind noise - you could use a sock on a normal microphone to see if it makes any difference - make sure its clean and not full of holes, otherwise it would defeat the purpose

Just join in the fun m8. All help appreciated.

1. Organise roles. Stephen (Ed), Tommy (events), myself (DVD cover) and the rest of us will start to advise how everyone can pitch in. I hope to gather enough footage for a full DVD. Agree official contributors who'll send material to Stephen. Mix of organised & ad hoc footage.

2. Events/material - what will be included what can and can't be included. Agree schedule of events with Tommy. Will this be an official club DVD for exmaple or unofficial 'tartan' produce..

3. Agree look and feel.. Influences.. other DVDs etc etc. Ensure copyright and legal issues addressed as we aim to sell to raise club funds.

4. Soundtrack (tba). So far Stephen and myself down for this but budding DJs welcome. Whoever does this will need to work closely with Stephen and is probably best to be closely located. We can then feed in favourite tracks etc.. I'd personally aim for fast beat dance stuff, electro rock but it may be nice to mix that up.. Kid Loco etc etc.. acid jaxx etc.. chill out classic/dance overlay stuff.. suggestions? Aim to match music to video footage.

5. DVD cover (I have some experience in such artwork & will have a go at this but others welcome). I'll aim to do 4/5 drafts for project group/committee approval. No big busty girls.. promise!

6. Editing.. approving material for inclusion and final editing to get look of DVD. + credits,, opening sequence etc. This wil be led by Stephen and liaised to committee via Shorty. Possibly a good way is to split the DVD into chapters.

7. Timescales.. aim of showing completed item at next AGM/Xmas bash. This ties up with events calendar.

what do people think of this style of intro credits as suggested by Jon, based on "lock stock" or "snatch"?

or if that doesn't work, get it here:

i was thinking that a group photo of cars done like this could even be a link on the dvd to a little bit about each car and its owner?

downloaded Adobe Premiere Pro and it seems to handle 'travelling mattes' much easier than Pinnacle Studio, no more painstaking frame-by-frame blurs of fast-moving objects, set a start point and end point and premiere can fill in the gaps automatically

got some sound effect cds to try out too, and i came across this cool animated dvd menu on the pinnacle forums

http://www.ianson.e7even.com/images/Menu_Demo.mpeg - http://www.ianson.e7even.com/images/Menu_Demo.mpeg

(9mb, right-click, save as)

ill draw out some storyboards, ideally we want to get everyone who wants their car spec featured on the dvd to be grouped together in their cars, like moffat classic car show:

then a car would be highlighted by selecting it with your dvd remote control, it could drive off, past the camera, and back into its parking spot while displaying a bit of tech spec as an overlay, what do you reckon?

That sounds just too sexy Stephen.. anymore and we can sell the DVD on the Internet.....

Plus add in 'Lock Stock' credits and banging beats and we have one serious DVD on our hands.

Now we need a good sounding narrator. I think Malc could make a good narrator.. or Pete..

Suisse trip now confirmed for 11 days so no Britball this year for me but should be plenty of footage (19-29th August so one of the last peices of footage).

I suggest we get as much good weather footage this summer and organise a few 'film' runs.. day and night..

Good stuff m8. Get on board and get some drifting/doughnut footage for us..

Looking at Sony digi-camcorders myself with the Carl Zeiss lenses and will buy some big memory sticks and the big 9 hr batteries. They Sony digis have moveable optics so more resistant to vibrations plus have an active irus/focus for variable light.

DVD intro could really work well. I also like when footage is sped up and slowed down in time to music ( ala Gumball 3000 end creits.. superb!!)

its set to be resumable, so you can carry on where you left off if you dont manage to upload or download something in one go

good quality vids, i thought you were going to skid into the side of the house!

I must see these...

A guy I know (bimmer owner) who has proper DVD DTP software is gonna help me with the cover.. what he needs are pics of the cars that are likely to appear in the DVD and also to get a feel for the look. Stephen - is there a way we cabn collate various mbr pics now... could I direct him to your server if we get pics on there?

Of course once we have footage then I'll make sure we can later alter the final pics to reflect the DVD. just don't want to leave it all to a mad last rush before the AGM (yes I know it's only January..)

I was also looking at the CanonballRun Europe DVD again and noted the split screen affects.. it was done particualry well but then I recalled Bullit and also the original 'Mean Machine'.. just an idea to condense footage and make it more visual.

I have loads of DVDs here and I know you've got loads of feed as well Stephen. we just need to watch it all and note good ideas.

yeah, no probs, ive simplified the server so theres no usernames or passwords required

a few points

  • forum members can freely download all content listed in the main directory
  • forum members can upload videos and pictures for the dvd to uploads\videos and uploads\pictures respectively.  make a folder in there with your name so i know who its from
  • forum members cannot download videos in the uploads\videos directory
  • forum members can download pictures in the uploads\pictures directory (so your guy can get the car photos for the dvd cover)
  • forum members cannot delete files from the server, if you want something removed, please email me at mailto:stephen@perry1976.freeserve.co.uk - stephen@perry1976.freeserve.co.uk or pm me
  • server supports resumable uploads and downloads, so you don't have to finish uploading or downloading stuff in one go, you can do bits at a time

to download videos:

click on ftp://g5pry.serveftp.com - ftp://g5pry.serveftp.com

drag 'n' drop the file you want across to your desktop screen

to download pictures:

click on ftp://g5pry.serveftp.com/uploads/pictures - ftp://g5pry.serveftp.com/uploads/pictures

drag 'n' drop the file you want across to your desktop screen

to send me videos:

click on ftp://g5pry.serveftp.com/uploads/videos - ftp://g5pry.serveftp.com/uploads/videos

right-click, select new...folder and name it with your username e.g. "m blur", double-click on the folder, then just drag 'n' drop your videos into the folder to send it to me - it might take a while depending on the size of the files

to send me pictures:

How about I set up an M Blur folder, for video footage, as you suggest with a sub-folder for drafts of the DVD cover?

Unfortunately I keep getting timed out when trying to get into those links..

thanks for that link, im basing my bracket on their "camcorder headrest mount"

i got a ball mount fabricated today for the camera to screw onto so you can tilt it to the desired angle

it's not clear from the photos if the arm is extendable - my plan is to have two metal tubes, one inside another, with a lock to hold it in the desired place - if the mount is placed on the the relevant headrest poles you can film from the middle of the car, back or forward and if you extend the inner tube you can have the camera poking out of the window for exterior shots, just pick driver or passenger side

Very cool.. I am to fab sth that hooks between the 2 roll hoops. Good thign about that is it'll be protected by the fly screen from any buffeting... and I don't mean extreme random finger food..

Stephen.. juts lovin the Teckademics vids.. was in contact with Gio about using M 8LUR as a teck show car in the UK but he left and I haven't pursued matters with Rick yet..

But as ideas go for the DVD project.. nice!

okay guys, im looking at making a start on some ideas for the the dvd menus.

As mentioned before, im looking to get a small line up of heavily modified or unusual cars for the "meet the owners" section of the dvd - the premise is that youll have your car featured in a line, when the viewer selects it youll drive off, round and back into line - while youre out of shot some overlay will be displayed with tech specs and a rolling road dyno graph if you have it - if anyone wants to be famous we can have a very short interview with you introducing yourself and talking a little bit about your car, while you are talking there will be a few still shots of your car with closeups on choice modifications as you speak about them - the script will be something along the lines of, for example

<to camera>

"hi my name is stephen perry and this is my 1999 323ci"

<cut to one or two external shots of the car>

"exterior modifications are clear lights front and rear <cut to quick shots of front and rear lights>, 18" alutec ac schnitzer type 2 replica wheels <wheels>, lowered on gmax springs, m3 boot spoiler <spoiler>...etc etc"

"engine modifications?  not much at the moment, just a k&n panel filter" (cut to shot of engine bay then overlay of standard engine specs and manufacturers figures in my case)"

you get the idea

anyway, what i need is a list of cars for consideration, ill put it on a poll later so you can vote for your favourite half a dozen? - then we need to arrange a meeting that the chosen cars will all need to be at so i can do the filming when the weather gets better

I'd love to see M 8LUR in the DVD.. (I'll slip you a fiver later..)

Sounds like a top top idea m8. It may be we even mix with a narrator for those who are a bit camera shy to perhaps read some of the script but either way it all sounds great. I'd actually say Crail may be the best opp' as there is plenty of space & it would allow some good footage of the cars on the move..

In my mind there are some cracking/unusual cars in the region.. Colin's 2002 EVO, 2002 tii, Blur, Paul's CSL, multiple E36 EVOs, Steve's 535D, Wendy's SportEVO.. 635CSi... the list goes on and on and on. I'd actually say we have at least a dozen top spec cars in the region, in great condition that would make interesting viewing. A mix of show and track cars... excellent! A slight bias towards modded cars makes more interesting tech specs.

Stephen/Martin,

I think some of max bimmer's videos make handy reference.. both from the pt of music mix and editing. both of whichcan be bettered with time and effort as maxbimmer aim to get as much feed out whereas we can edit towards only 1 DVD.

http://www.maxbimmer.com/videos/ - http://www.maxbimmer.com/videos/

My hope is a DVD in excess of 1 hour long, which requires variety of cars, scenery and tunes. Martin mentioned his trance and break-beats style last night on the phone and he's going to bring in some examples on Sunday.

We can also decide a basic layout of what people would like as a front cover so I can get to work with my friend Mahyad.

We need high quality footage, im thinking its probably a better idea if any contributors take footage is to send it to me instead of trying to upload it because of the sheer size (uncompressed AVI format can be over 1 Gb (yes, 1024 megabytes!!!!) for ONE MINUTE of video.  You don't need to edit it, just dump it from your camcorder onto the computer, or alternatively, send me the tape with a stamped-addressed jiffy bag (analogue Hi-8 or digital Mini DV) and ill send it back to you

Much better to burn onto DVD if you have the facilities and pop it in the post, we need to have good quality source material, what looks alright on a computer monitor will look awful when put on a large television

No problem Tob,

The DVD will be a montage of footage (edited by Stephen) covering most of the year up to about September when we'll start to edit the DVD ahead of the AGM.

So plenty of time to include one of your cars.. in my mind I reckon the project will be the most interesting.. will you be able to get us a footage from your exploits at the 'Ring and elsewhere?

Rgds

Jon

Why no 5s?

My 200,000 mile, more hits than the Beatles, E39 528 would love to be a film star.

If the M635 pimpmobile were to be involved, I think the content would be such that you'd need to get prior approval from http://www.bbfc.co.uk/ - these people .

To varying extends yes Pete - the aim is to include all cars that appear at events or where interesting footage has been gathered.

If you recall Pete, Stephen hopes to profile a selected number of cars that are of most interest - either be it because of rarity, modifications or classic status etc.

I, and I reckon most involved, want to see a wider appeal for the DVD rather than it become another dreary club film only to be shown at meets.

Def' the sort of cars Stephen and myself have in mind m8..

The aim is to a full run down on half a dozen cars or so & perhaps 3/4 of those will be E36s as there is no doubting the effort put into those cars. Then also hope to pack in some other unusual/modded models to add variety. I'd say Col's 2002 EVO is a good example of that and Steve's SG535D.

Of course for those that don't have their cars detailed in that part of the DVD will still be covered in the DVD when attending events. After all we want to protray a thriving region of many owners and cars not just a select few.

I was picturing a sort of scene selection sort of thing at the menu on the DVD, with basically all the members cars listed, click on the "scene", it opens up, you get the choice of stills, motion shots and track shots (if applicable).
