I need most of the clutch/floor box assembly for an auto - e21 5speed conversion.  My usual wrecker (Angus Buchanan near Sudbury 01206 262556) does not have these parts.

I need clutch, flywheel, floorbox and gear shift and linkage.

In general is there a good wrecker which specialises in 2002's

I have found;

Cooks Ferry (0208 804 2002) take the day off and bring your spanners.

Fritz Bits     (01823 699 425) has all the bits and seems reasonable.  I'll probably go back after a bit more research.

There seems little conversation so I might as well use the forum as a note book ?

I have fitted the gearbox if that is what you mean. However I went with a four speed as I happened upon one and it seemed less hastle than going straight to a five speed. I will however move to a five speed one day.

The four speed box has done three track days since. I have killed the diff but the gearbox is still there.

You fixed the diff? I've just replaced mine with an E21 3.9 LSD so the old one is spare. How'd you break it anyhow? I thought they were bomb proof....

I think one of the bearings had gone it worked it just sounded like a dragging muffler. I broke it just doing the legal limit on a motorway.

Where did you get your e21 diff from and how much did it cost??

Got it from the US, $310. All the ones i've come across in the UK are 3.45's as they were only usually in 323i's . Although my dad had a 320 auto with one in 1980! You need the E21 shafts too, unless you redrill the flanges and use spacers. U put the 02 outer joint on the E21 shaft. The rear cover needs changing over (preferably the finned type) and the oil must be right. Castrol SAF-XB.
