I still say that the central region is too big and needs subdividing. If anyone else fancies going let me know.

I Agree with Stone-IslandM3.

Why don't the Welsh guys split off into there own region. No offence intended to 'Get rid of the Welsh' or anything like that. But the Scottish and Irish have there own regions, so why not the Welsh?

I know that the Scotish guys have a long way to travel in their region, but I bet ther aren't as many off them as there are us? Although you may not choose to believe that, the way the region is at the moment!

I feel we need a good web page for the central region. That would encourage growth i think.

OK heres an idea that I'll bring along to the meeting.

Why don't we subdivide the Central region into smaller regions based on N,S,E & W or by earmarking 5-6 key towns/cities and have a committee made up of 1 member who resides/ looks after that area.

e.g 1-2 rep for Wales,
1 for Gloucestershire & Oxfordshire & Warwickshire.
1 for Hereford & Worcester, Northamptonshire
1 for West Midlands
1 for Northants,Bucks,Beds
etc etc.

At least this way it'll give more views on an overall 'do' agenda and also will give a more focussed view on organising smaller meets.

John, fancy a small convoy up to Gaydon or are you going up earlier?

Thats along the same lines as what I was thinking.

That also allows the 'reps' as it were to communicate with each other to get organised for a big event/multiple events etc..

I'd be quite up for getting envolved like this and I'm definalty coming to the meeting.

Going to try to make this, got some work comitments that weekend but I'm trying to get out of them.

I agree with John, maybe we should split it up into smaller sub regions.

John if you fancy a run up I'll join you,

See you at The Harvester end of month

Ok how about this:

Wales-1 rep
Hereford,Glocs -1 rep
Oxfordshire,Berks-1 rep
Bucks,Beds,Northants-1 rep
Worcs,Warcs-1 rep.

Just a suggestion, could go as mad as 1 per county.

Its just too big an area for 1 man/woman to handle. Its also noticeable how little interest there is in cross-forum info on these meets, ie MK/Northants meets have been posted on other BM forums and got ZERO responce. Some meets have members living 5 mins from forum users and they do not bother going. Some forums have members here who do not go meets arranged on this forum yet arrange meets in the same towns as organised on here yet dont inform this forum about it.

These meets and activities need local pushing to gain attendance. I've posted about the monthly MK meets on 2 other forums (E30 zone and BM3W) and got a couple of positive responces from each so will hopefully push it forwards.

There are other entertaining activities which other marques involve themselves in which give them local media attention and heighten public awareness which again swells their ranks/support which could only work on a much more local basis.

Sorry to bang on about this but its an opinion I've had for a while based on my previous involvement in my misspent youth with the Lambretta Club GB and local scooter clubs.

Yes--All good stuff--Keep the idea,s coming.Everyone has a VERY busy Life, and family comes No 1.Lots of demand on time, and difficult sometimes to remember to keep in touch. So the first or last --day of the month couple of hours meetup, is a good idea.

Its taken a year + just to get the MK/Aylesbury/Northants idea accepted, and could be repeated all over the region. Some already do this, but dont tellus!!!!!.Having enough notice of a meeting is also important, not everyone uses the web.

It doesnt help that I cannot remember the last time I saw a write up on the central region in the magazine-but I do remember that I saw a very depressed one with some photos of people at a meet looking very unimpressed!!!!

If the committee idea is worked again this is another job shared so would only be a paragraph or 2 by each rep per month.

There are some very good ideas bouncing around here, just what the central region needs. I agree 100% with what John(Stone-Island) is saying about the write ups on the Central region in the mag. We look like the region that does the least amount, we are the hole in the Car Clubs polo mint!

As the other John(B7VP) also pointed out, we all have other commitments that come first, thats life but if we all club together Im sure we slip the Central Region onto pole position.

My suggestion would be to have less people called John!!
Only kidding!

I cant promise that i'll be there as it falls on Sarah's weekend off, but we'll see what she says. mind you, she's never been to Gaydon before.... hmmmmmmmmm

Im off to put the charm hat on

Mark !!, changed me name JB7VP-not sure how you pronounce that??

Write ups for an event, you can maybe remember-but-for a small get together at say a pubmeet, its interesting for those there, not always so for someone reading about the chat, who said what.So pub meets do go on, without others always knowing.

Down in South Wales, I met up with a great group of Girls n Guys-Paul, Simon and Steve for a drive out over the Brecon Beacons in May.10-12 Cars around the twisties, and we ended up for lunch in a great spot, more driving in afternoon. They often do these runs and other subject meets.--But No write ups !!. Theres an answer there!!!.

We have a Great website and Forum, why dont we have a New section for Promotion and  A Post write up of a Regions Event-NOT hundreds of words, but just gives an idea to another section of a Region, that THEY could do this-that+++.Can also be used for short notice "Next Weekend" anyone interested?? jobs.Killian could advise on that subject.

John

I frequent a number of other forums and there is a meets section on most of them, any meet even just a small get together (as we had at the Havester the other month), has a write up and photos, so I feel this would be a great idea.

And whats this?

South Central area meets being organised monthly in and around Beds/Bucks/Northants.

Also, theres a thread about organising a meet up with South Central region with East Anglian region which looks like being scheduled for February.

And the Central region AGM, and the better driving days.

It took me a year to get the MK meets past 2 people to where it is now and thats with posting on other forums plus the MK meets being held 5 mins walk from where a mod on another forum lives and he's been to 1.

Through perseverance with meets the MK meet extended last year to Northampton and Aylesbury (big thanks to Mick & Mark) and with further perseverance the meet in Jan looks like it'll have some guys from other BM forums attending.

People have got families/other commitments and will not attend every event. Personally I wouldnt bother with a RR event but thats just me.Last check I made you've had posts on your threads but why give out email ads etc when they're all on profile and this can all be sorted by PM.

Theres no reason the MK etc meets couldnt be extended to Coventry area or further afield but thats something that'd need the water testing on.

I'm not having a go but that post was a bit unfair and I'm sure most people who went to the meets last year will tell you I'm a sensitive wee lamb.

Dear John

Your efforts have to be commended...and I'm looking forward to all the events your trying to get off the ground .

With ref to Msn and emails it can't hurt to publish them on here..it can only help people speak to each other.....i found a mailing list away from the board a great help in letting people know whats going on. I've seen real results from this so thought it would be agood idea....I had also given the option to mail me direct away from the board so i coulds start a mailing list up.

Just think 1 list ....sent out to all interested at a click of the send button....it works.

I was trying a few things out in the central region to see if there was any interest but as you've kindly mentioned ''alot of looks but no posts'' ...... not even out of courtesy.

The idea of events like rolling roads and Karting is to get abit of spirit going and real friendship with people you've not met before just like all the hard work your putting in trying to get Meets of the ground.

Cheers

Phil

To a degree this is done already by PM and is how I made a lot of contact re the meets last year.

I see the way forward as branching off from the forum and getting write-ups and stuff advertised in the magazines plus hefty posting on the other forums.

Also, it might be useful for dealer sponsors to start talking to dealers about this.

Theres also the unfortunate prob of forum gradings. I put post after post on 3 other BM forums about the meets as a 'newbie' and got no responce, perhaps this has an effect??

Also, on your comparison with scoobynet IMO its different kettle of fish (?? )-scoobs aint been around as long, there arent so many obvious styles & registers & scoobynet is therefore a much more closely used forum. Look at BMs-E30,39,34,36,46,90 etc etc-loads of forums and most seem to have their own leaning- BM3W is predom E46 owners,E30zone is E30s E36coupe etc etc.

Also, scoobs are a lot more abundant than non-rep driven BMs. I gave up waving at E46 M3s or flashing lights at them cos most of the time I think they thought I was barking.

Dont forget that age old BM snobbery

John

Comments ----All good stuff More postings seen than for years, eh John.!!! Some years ago, the Snobbery subject maybe could have been a reason, for some non interest in a particular type of event.Such is the diverse interest in so many different models now, that someone, somewhere in our region, Will be interested in a meetup--its getting the Info in front of them--as has already been said here.

The magazine is great for write ups, and if planned ahead far enough, some regular events can be listed --ie Phils Monthly PISS--but it take a lot of work ,to build up a committment to support them.

You only have to look back to Gaydon 04, to Go Forward for the Future-- different people enjoying a variety of subjects for nearly every model. One can ask drivers choice,s -they reply-you organise it-3 drivers turn up.So you go back to the small local pub type meets, around the region-not lots of driving Or Time--then have a few bigger events spread around the whole region, inc a Family event-to keep everyone happy.(Nearly)

Is the Gaydon meet in the museum? It might be daft to add that if it is entrance is £8 - I think you can go in cafe without going into museum but I think it might be an idea to let them know as it seems quite a few may be coming.

I'm trying to make it but car is not back on road yet from Cadwell prang. Looking forward to Mallory!

I will do my best to be there John.

I'll have a word with Peter and Andy ( the curry boys ) to see if they are coming.

Viet-taff.......love it lol

Its just getting things that different people will attend.

Rolling road days...not interested

Karting/quad biking, maybe depends on cost, have the excuse of entertaining 8 year old son !

Pub meets etc, not really my bag, have kids etc, and work a lot, so spare time is too precious to not be doing something with them.

Curry nights are good, weve only had two of them, max three people attending and we cant even get our wives to come, never mind bmwcc members !

Driving events, I can help there, non track day stuff, enough people doing track days already, something like the north wests skid pan day I'm attending soon.

There was a superb East Anglian event I attended a couple of years ago, lunch in a French Chateau, it took all day to get there and back, but what a fantastic inexpensive day out !

Both Peter and myself have floated the idea of family days, with no response except the two of us, there are some great attractions in the region, let alone country wide, Severn Valley railway, west midlands safari park etc etc, even a picnic by the river whatever. There are also some great working farms around here, the kids love that sort of stuff, if kids are happy wifeys are happy !

John (B 7 VP),

Thanks for getting in contact with me today, my e-mail address is steve@stephenestebanez.wanadoo.co.uk

Everybody else, hi, I'm the aforementioned Steve from the Brecon Beacons run last May as mentioned by John earlier.
Speaking as a native from the other side of the border, and probably the most easterly located of the Welsh, the big problem we have are the distances involved in attending meets and shows. For example Gaydon is a good 2 hour run from my house, moreso for my fellow club members further west. This lead me to organising a couple of runs around the Brecon Beacons last year, the first of which was kindly attended by John (B 7 VP, by the way, next time I want to have a closer look at the Alpina mate!). Each time the turnout was approx 7 - 8 cars which I found to be encouraging, although these were predominantly from the e30zone and the e36coupe forums.
However I'm looking to expand on these this year, some meets will keep the same format, after all some of the roads near me are used by car journalists for road tests, and some will be of a more general theme, say visiting places of interest. Another possibilty I'm looking at is to combine some meets with the Kuhmo/Miltek races as one of our Welsh members is in the process of preparing an E30 320i for the Miltek challenge.
Hopefully this will go some way to encouraging some activity in this part of the region.

Cheers
Steve
