Date Posted: 11-January-2005 at 19:20

Mondello Park 2.2mile International Circuit
Saturday March 26th (Easter weekend) @ 1pm

I'm assuming a usual rate of €100 will apply and €30 per passenger.
I want to know that all costs for this have been covered at least 3 weeks in advance as I don't want a repeat of the previous fiasco.

I plan on getting proper sponsorship for this also which hopefully will reduce our costs significantly. However, at 100 quid a go, we will need about 60 drivers to break even!

All drivers will be required to bring their club membership cards and full drivers licence on the day. If you don't, then you don't drive. No exceptions!!!!!

OK, for all those planning on attending:-

Ah no, it's the only weekend i'm not available. Missus has organised 5 nights in Prague and I cant say no to that. That's a real pity cos I wanted to give it a go this time. Well not much I can do about it. I'm sure there will be a second one later in the year if all goes well. Did someone mention the possibility of a trip to the Isle of Man, i'd be on for that.

It's 5 nights in Prague so it's very hard to convince her that a cold evening in Mondello is more craic. It's also the only week some of our crew can get holidays, because its an automatic holiday week for most trades.

I met a few of you guys in the Plaza Hotel up in Tallaght a few months back. I'm not a member of the club, but I'd like to join and get out for the track day in March.

I just picked up me 2002 E46 M3 and I'd like to try it out on the track!

How do I go about joining the club? How much does it cost?

Count me in for the track day too.

Plaza Hotel? Must have been one I wasn't invited to

Anyway, you can join via the join link at the top right of this page. IIRC it is UK£35 or about 50 yoyos.

Welcome Gus - and well wear with the M3 (ya lucky git! ) Plenty of fun out on the circuit with that.

@ Killian & Adrian ~ Most of us haven't been out on the international track anyway, so there'll be a bit of novice in all of us for half the circuit. I'm looking forward to the international section - some slower 90° corners to learn how the E36 behaves with a limited slip diff once traction is broken (ie I'll be skutting!)

Yeah, I wasn't invited either. Is there an inner circle in the club ?. The Plaza, sounds very posh. Maybe that was the New BMW Ireland Car Club.

Mondello International TrackThe double right hander @ Tarzan is great fun. Also the stretch from 'trapese' towards it is a straight downhill section!

I have used the Intl. section a couple of times at the Mondello PDC in a Formula Rover (limited!) car. Only spun once (whilst racing!)

@ Gerard - what car are you going to be driving? And does this mean you'll be giving us an education on the circuit rather than from a passenger seat?

What ever about timing laps, my personal timer is IanH and his 330Ci. Now I have something that has some chance of keeping up, it should make it interesting! My poor old 525i was brought to within an inch of it's life every time I went out trying (unsuccessfully I might add!).

Sent mine in the post yesterday. It says on the instructions that some insurance companies may cover you in the event of an accident as it may not be classified as racing. Has anyone actually contacted insurance companies for their view on this ?. Probably not, i'm sure they'd only laugh.

I had it confirmed that we are in fact driving in the afternoon slot.
On previous occasions in Mondello the Porsche club always had the day after but due to timetable pressures there now we are sharing the day with them. It will also definitley be the International circuit.

Get your applications in asap though to guarrantee that we can afford it!

Ado - forget about insurance. A standard road policy generally states that competitive or track use is not covered. You would need a special track day policy. We tried organising this in the past and they didn't really want to know. Just drive within your limits and you shouldn't do anything wrong.

If you'd really like insurance for the day, I've got a quote from

http://www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk - http://www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk

The guys name is Chris Yemm, if you want a quote just mail him (cyemm@eggerlawson.co.uk) and he'll send you a form.

Personally I think it's a bit steep for the day...Stg£283 with a Stg£3,700 excess. But that's on an M3 and once any insurance company hears you want to insure one them it's like a licence to 'rip you a new one'

If enough people were interested in insurance, he might be able to work out some kind of group deal? Or have you guys been doen this route before?

Posted By: Richie
Date Posted: 21-January-2005 at 11:26
In the event of an accident you'll have paid out €5750. If thats all it costs you to repair an M3 you'll be doin well.
I'd do it if I was taking an M3 out and intending to drive the ar*e out of it!

@Killian - travelling next week so will get the form in the following once I get back.

@Aidan - cant wait to hear that V8 scream down the pit straight, definiely want to sit in the passenger seat if you are happy to take out a passenger.

@Killian (again) - I pressume that if you a paid up driver this covers you to be a passenger or do you need to pay the passenger fee also?

Roll on March!!!!!!!!

Had the car out last July on a very quiet trackday and found that after a few laps the M5 does not scream down the straight, its more of aloud BELLOW,anyway its the only time I've ever got the exhausts hot enough to make them sound the way they should ie:lots of popping and banging on the overrun

Should be a bit of fun...he.he.he

Speaking of M5s, I was onto Murphy & Gunn this evening, inviting them along and was talking to Kelvin. Apparently, as part of his development in understanding how customer's cars work, he has to head over to Rockingham to complete "non-technical training in the new M5" - in English this means he is getting paid to go over and drive the new beast on track!

Aidan - V8s are fantastic, I lived in the states and had a 73 Mustang convertible with a 351 Cleveland, twin Holley 750 carbs, high lift cams and racing exhaust.  400 bhp at the rear wheels on leaf springs

Thing was harder on rear tyres than juice but great fun.  Handling was not even a topic and come to think of it it was fairly brutal at stopping but on a rolling start it was mental.

Must dig out some oics and scan them in to post them up.  Wish I'd never sold it but hey at the time beer was more a priority.

hardware? as in cars? They have brought cars each time such as E46 M3s. The last day, Robbie Bolger was hoping to come down and (at a customers request) test drive a new 6.

So we're sharing the track with the Porsche club, yeah? Should be an interesting comparision....

We are *not* out with the Porsches. They are on in the morning and we are on in the afternoon! It is just coincidental that we share the same day.

I just had a look at the http://www.porsche-club-ireland.ie - porsche club site - there are a few pics from their track day last October but one confuses me - is there a car there that possibly shouldn't be?

and here I was thinking that you were refering to that Smart thing in the foreground, but those Cayennes are seriously rapid. Not sure what purpose they have in this country though. An X5 is a better all rounder and has plenty of poke.

@killian

I know of 2 members who will be taking part in the trackday. However they wouldnt have known if it if I hadn't told them as they are not on the net.

I wonder how many other members are not aware of the track day due to no intenet access. I dont want to start a debate on the matter but in this instance how are members with no internet access been targeted?

Am wondering if there is still places for admissions to the Mondello Track Day? If so would it be possible to register for it in about 2 to 3 weeks?

Am only just after gettin an e30 318is over from the UK and would really love to have a spin on the track with it. Am supposedly getting my Cert of permanent export for it this week, as the registration cert has been lost. Want to see how she differs from my e30 316 1800 carb. She should be good seein that she is superchipped, has a LSD and black leather recaro,s...

Cannot fill in the application form as it is not registered yet, so i can't submit the Reg. and will have to put it through the NCT. It has an up to date MOT alright so the NCT should be no problem.

Would it be possible to hold a place for me? Will be going up with Tom Elliot... Thanks

Somehow i don't think it will be overbooked, so get your application in asap to make up the numbers.

Welcome to the club, i took my car out at the last track day, it was my first time and i'm hooked to say the least.

@Killian - any idea of numbers confirmed for Mondello yet.

Am dyin to get her on the road, so the minute i get the paper work sorted and get me some number plates i will send it in straight away. Have it printed off already to go.....

It says on it that i can join the club when i get to mondello aswell, is this still going ahead? as i don't want to be told that it is members only when i get there and i can only join over the net.

You have to be a member to take the car out, members only shall we say . Just get signed up before the track day, the handiest thing to do is ring the club office and they'll sort you out. It's an excellant day and great to see other peoples machines......like Aidan's M5 to name one, can't wait to hear that V8

Better to be safe than sorry i suppose. Def see ya around there anyway, will be in a fairly blacked out e30 318is. Lookin forward to the M5 alright, "nothin like a bit of V8 in the mornin"....

Do i send the Mondello application to English address on the application form or is there an irish rep incharge of admissions for over here?

@ Gstanley - you can join the club in Mondello as I will have app forms there. However, just in case, sign on for the day via the club office. You can telephone and pay via credit card also (00441225709009) which may be less hassle.
The day is for club members only as this is necessary for liability insurance reasons, etc.
With regard to your reg - just tell the office that it is being transferred, etc.

Currently we have about 10 signed up. We also are quite confident on having BMW Irl on board who will provide us with some sponsorship dosh and hopefully some prizes*.

* prizes for the best person to organise the event, for the best 523i with ACS kit, for the best person called Killian...

Thanks a lot Killian..

Will give the office a shout in the morning so. Sure i was just thinkin today that i could just register it on the application form on the english plates and sort it out up there... If there is any hassle with the new irish plates on it then i will bring along the old ones and a roll of double adhesive tape....!!!!! She has an mot too so it should be grand safety wise.

How much is it to join the club?
