Not much to do with motoring but my other half wants me to take her up north for Valentines weekend.  She did not say anywhere specific and being from the central belt I have not been too far north apart from the meetings.

Anyone from the north know good quality quiet places with something to do?

I don't often treat her to much and can't say no to her so any help would be greatful for an easy life.

Also it gives me a chance to go a run in the M3!!

Cheers Alan..

id suggest staying near inverness if you want things to do, or on the west coast if you like sheep and scenery

what about this?

http://www.monarchcountry.com/towns.htm - http://www.monarchcountry.com/towns.htm

stay away from aviemore, its a hole

grantown is nice to look at, fun road for your car when heading back to elgin, wouldnt want to spend more than a couple of days there though, if you can stretch it that long!

boat of garten has its own steam railway

what about a nice little touring long weekend, stay in a few places?

to quote:

Red pudding is a food commonly served at chip shops in Scotland as an alternative to fish (see Fish and chips). Naturally the pudding is coloured red inside. It consists of spicy pork meat and fat that is formed into the shape of a large sausage of roughly 9 inches in length. This is then coated with a thick crispy outer layer of batter by deep frying it, making it quite thick. The red pudding is served warm and usually wrapped to take home. It is not as dry to eat as similar local delicacies of black pudding or white pudding.

http://www.searchspaniel.com/index.php/Red_pudding - http://www.searchspaniel.com/index.php/Red_pudding

black pudding you know what that is, white pudding is oatmeal stuffing, lovely with gravy

Stephen, the last few times ive been home ive taken the 320D, great on motorway but between Aviemore and Elgin useless. The wife always get's fed up of me saying "if i had the M3 i would of went for it then", instead i have to settle for the speed of the holiday makers in front.

Mark.

pitlochry is another nice place, popular with the tourists, i usually stop off there to stretch my legs when heading south.

theres too much competition in the moonshine business, im going to grow apple trees and make scrumpy instead, youve heard of Perrys Cider Farms in Somerset - i reckon with a few bags of Granny Smiths from asda, a mangle and a couple of litres of meths i should have a marketable product

Cheers for all the info guys!! Did not expect so much, although a £700 log cabin is way more than she will be getting.

Got Amsterdam in March with the guys and a wedding in Germany in August so budget for Valentine is slashed

Will sieve through the places and make a decision

Cheers again and if you think of any more then please post.

Alan.

is that near the nessie centre?

Stayed at Lochy caravan park last year, veiws of Ben Nevis and the ranges. its on the Mallaig Road. very nice place. they have big luxury caravans, or log cabins. Fort Bill close by.

Skye is also nice, lots to see. Or go accross Mull to Iona, a truley magical place. (and I'm not religeous, but it had turqoise sea and bright blue sky along with white sand on the beach. It was Juneish though )

Had a Four days and 3 nights break in this hotel originally to go fishing with a mate - never got near a fishing rod - enjoyed staying local (ie walking distance) although there are some great drives about

Food was great - Major peace and quiet and because your a resident lock-ins are expected (They bribe you to keep the bar open)
