Hello!

I've recently purchased a 730i on a 95/6 N plate with 63k on the clock. It's a lovely motor, though I have a query about the auto box's shifting patterns

My query is over the reluctance of the car to shift from 4th to 5th gear - it has a tendancy to "stick" in 4th and ocassionally 3rd - specially after a kickdown.

First of all, having consulted the BMW dealer Technical information CD (these are very good by the way, though obviously I can't condone purchasing one for £6 on Ebay.....) I know that some 7's had very sensitive AGS curves (this would stop the box changing up a gear whilst going round a corner).

As the car has currently got a very varied selection of tyres on it (most of which are no good), then it is likely that once new ones are fitted this week, the problem will go away (even tyres of the same profile, but a different make could upset the speed sensors and therefore the AGS function ).

Assuming that is not the case though, has anyone else had this problem? I think it is most likely to be a matter of adjustment, but before I have a wallet-emptying experience at the local dealer, I thought I would check.

Forums such as this are an excellent way of sharing knowledge; I can definitely recommend them; the Ford Probe owners forum got me out of many a pickle!

Cheers

Andy

Just for reference - I had some new front tyres fitted and this solved the problem straight away; the car is now shifting up and down just as it should!
