Not sure, you could try looking in one of the many classic cars mags, like Classic and sports car. They have values for a lot of classics listed in the back.

Its not a valuation you need, its a buyer ! . Good luck!

It's like that story from the scriptures, 'the prodigal
son'.

"Dad, I'm going to go out and find a good E12 5
Series"

"Son, you'll never manage it. They never made one"

"Well thanks for the tip Dad, but I'm gonna try
anyway".........

12 YEARS LATER.......

"Dad, you were right. There's no such thing as a
good E12 5 Series".

"Son, I could have told you that twelve years ago".

As Hiabboy says, try finding a buyer for a carburettor
320 Automatic. Someone I know sold a mint two
owner manual 320 on an X plate for £450. It's all
about condition. A perfect example might make
£1000 on a good day but sadly, it's not a very
saleable car. But good luck with it anyway. If you can
afford the petrol, they're not a bad thing for cruising
around in.

there are often 320 E21's for sale in the BMW Classic Car section of fleabay. As andyboy says, they struggle to reach four figures. If it was a 323i E21 it would be very collectable.

Collectable - by a man with a lorry and a hiab crane

Well the classic car mags reckon on about £1200 for one in A1 condition.

Andyboy, not a fan of older BMWs?

No, I hate E21's with a passion. My first BMW was an
R reg 320 and it was a disaster. Then I had two
323i's and a 320 manual. They're all dead now. They
were okay as a new car, but I don't do rust
anymore.........

Andyboy you're wrong, they weren't ok when new ,they were a horrid ugly rusty gutless turd with the exception of the 323i  which was a horrid ugly rusty dangerous(read fun!) turd which for its time was a hero chariot!.  Was it Car magazine c1980 which wrote "more upmarket cortina than exhalted sports saloon". I must confess to having a secret penchant for a 323i in black or henna red, please don't tell anyone!.    On the subject of selling an e21 try the under £50 section in the autotrader that is where i peddle my e23s

Hiab, I see you are on top form today . If you guys think Hiab hates E21's just wait till you read his opinions of e12's & e23's.

Are there any BMWs that Hiab & Andyboy don't hate?

Hiab - how's the white 745 coming along?

How many cars from that era didn't rust like crazy? I can't think of any.

Ugly! compared to other cars of the time I think they looked quite good. Sure they look dated now but what cars that are from the 70's and 80's don't

Finally gutless. Again I hate to say it, but compared to what? Performance was on a par or better than most contemparory cars. Most cars from that time where gutless compared to now.

Compared to what? a Cortina 2.0GL or an Alfetta.

Compared to contemporary Fords, Vauxhalls, Peaugots, Audis, VWs etc. All cars from the 70's rust to some extent. Very few of them were fast by modern standards and most of them look dated. In fact compared to most cars of the time BMWs looked good.

Do you not think it's a bit off that someone new visits the forum asking a question and some people (mentioning no names) put forward unhelpful suggestions like 'set fire to it'.

This is hardly going to encourage new owners to join the club is it.

Re e21 valuation .Yes but he's a 'carpet bagger' , they werent allowed on the 'register'. If he was a genuine enthusiast (like me with my 4 e23s) he would have joined up ages ago and participated in car club golfing weekends and polishing contests.  His intentions aren't honourable ,he has no interest in the club only in unloading his e21. Such behaviour wasn't tolerated on the 'register'.

A carpet bagger is a Johnny Come Lately who joins a club or a chat board just to get what he wants, like selling his car. they do not contribute to the chat board, they are just looking out for # 1. some chat boards only allow members who have been in the club for a while to advertise cars for sale, to prevent carpet bagging.

Whats the big problem against older BMW's?? There is no way I would consider one of the Chris Bangle things on my driveway, and told the BMW dealer so this morning when I described the contents of his showroom as 'very ugly'. When he found I had just bought an E28, he just shrugged and smiled one of those 'you will never have one of these' smiles. Not caring, can't ever see myself spending 40k on a newish BM. For now the newest I'll have is around 1990. Sorry guys, I like my classics.

Besides, he valued my car at 300 quid. Growl.

Thanks to all the genuine helpful repiers to my question. such a shame that this, being my first try at entering into a supposedly adult forum has met with such infantile responses. My car is NOT for sale but I want to ensure that I have a correct valuation for insurance reasons. My other 2 BMWs are doing nicely thank you.

A big Thank you to Peter whose replies were very helpful.

I will persevere with membership of the Club in hopes that things will improve
