Please Help

I've read a few posts in the forum and I think some fit my problem but have been miss-diagnosed. When I turn my steering wheel, intermittantly I get a stronger resistance to the wheels, which I know is not either the steering rack, or pump etc and is in the inner (inside the car) column. Everytime I get this resistance, it relates to a clicking noice which sounds like a bearing breaking up. I've booked this in with the speicalist next week, but i'm asking for a heads up on what this may be. Its not related to th slip ring either. If anyone else has had this problem or may know what it is please let me know.

Kind Regards,

Brendan E36 1995 318i.

Are you sure its not the joint just on the other side of the bulkhead in the engine bay? BMW did a recall on these.

I did ring BMW and asked if my car was outstanding any recalls and they said that ive had that mod

To be honest it sounds like a spring inside a bearing race. I've asked the garage to let me know what it is in detail so that I can post the solution on here. But please come forward if anyone else has any ideas.

Thanks

Bren,

I had exactly the same problem.

It's an easy fix and is fairly well known about. Just spray the bottom end of the steering column with oil where it comes through the bulkhead under the bonnet. You'll see the spring so just aim and squirt liberally so to speak.

You can thank me tomorrow at work.
