As Promised I've been in contact with Joanna @ Westward Eng. in Enfield and here's the low down . They've got too dates in April free for us , Saturday the 9th and Saturday the 23rd . The cost per car is EU60 (payable on the day) and this includes tea/coffee/light refreshments . You will also receive a full printout of bhp and torque levels .

What i now need to do is find out the preferred date and obviously how many want to take part .

a stag being possibly changed to the 23rd gave me cause to check my diary... when I discovered I've a wedding on that weekend too!

So I'm totally screwed for going to the rolling road. Had the 525 done & was anxious to get the 328 done.

Sorry about that lads....

Surely theres a place that does it down your neck of the woods T.J. You and all the Rebels can have your own meet. Save you alot of mileage. When I was in getting mine dyno'd 3 weeks ago, Martin in Westward told me that there are a few places doing that type of work around the country. What about Ears in Fermoy ?. I know they do alot of tuning parts and upgrades. If they dont do it themselves, they'll know where to get it tested.

Westward are just off the main street in Enfield (see red star). On the Galway side of the town there is a turn North towards Trim / Rathmoylan (on left if coming from Galway). Take this turn. Westward are the 1st right turn off this road - its signposted.

WE should hit the target Sean ,for 15 but it's not a problem if we don't (price remains the same) . It's just that the more cars that show up , the more it'll be like an actual BMWCC event . Also , if we get more than 15 , it's also cool .

John , there's nothing actually definate regarding advice on your motor , but Martin is very professional at what he does and he will give you a few pointers on what to look at as way of improving the running of your car .

Should be intersting alright... There is something in mine alright anyway, no receipts for a superchip but it revs out to just shy of 7,000 rpm, so there is something done.

Looks like we could have a bit of fun, would be class if we could get a few more e30 318is'.

See ya then anyway bud.

is that how you get a bit more RPM out of your car(a chip)?sorry for being a bit thick but my car is revving out at 5500 and i dont know how to get more.any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.

Posted By: Stevo
Date Posted: 03-April-2005 at 15:48
All right John . That seems to be the most economical way of getting a little bit more power out of your motor . In conjunction with a decent air filter and a nice exaust , a chip can make a differance . From there , you could keep going from uprated cams , throttle bodies , a turbo or supercharger conversion , nitrous , etc . But as the average Joe soap is on a limited budget , the more popular upgrades suffice .

-------------

Posted By: jrafferty
Date Posted: 03-April-2005 at 16:00

i have the exhaust,i plan to get the filter and thinking about a chip.ill go to the rolling road day and see what im putting out then ill get the filter and chip and take it back on the rolling road to see what difference they made.(if any). As for the turbos and superchargers:

1:trying to keep the car as original as i can(a few discreet mods)

2:car has swallowed too much of my money already(not far from reusing the teabags)

Posted By: Stevo
Date Posted: 03-April-2005 at 16:31
That's exactly what i did John . A little at a time and nothing too mental . If i've increased my bhp from the last time i was on the rollers (140), i'll be recomending a chip upgrade . As for torque , it's definatly up .

From my limited experience a chip upgrade will give you approx a 10% maximum increase in bhp & torque. Many of the chip companies give you the best case scenario and not the average. The torque improvements are noticeable though.

Usually if there is another club having a rolling road day, you can tag along and get yours done at the end. I went around about 6 weeks ago at 1.00pm on Saturday because I knew the MR2 club were being tested that morning, and Westward told me to come at that time. It's probably cheaper too. It cost me 60 yoyos.

Stevo

A bit of a snag.  I've done a deal to sell the e30 and will probably be dropping it off to the new owner on Saturday in Dublin.  Its the one I was going to run on the dyno.  It doesn't seem right to trash the knackers off it on the dyno before handing it over!

I'll probably swing by anyway to see how its going with everyone.  If the numbers are short, I don't mind paying for my "slot" because I did make the committment.

The buyer has had an e30 320i in the same colour and similar spec before, but I don't think he is a club member.

All cars must be present at 9.30 and we'll start testing at 10.00 . So Graham , i reckon you should leave Cork around 5 . This should give you plenty of time .

No worries Robbie .

bmw325tdsse (dunno your real name) , that's no problem , i'll just put your name x2 on the list .

Diarmuid , i've done a couple of rolling road sessions before and he actually doesn't rev the motor that hard (about 4500revs)so don't worry about thrashing the car , you won't blow a gasket or anything . I'll put a question mark on your name and you can decide on the morning if you like , no pressure .

Hey Stevo...!!!

One quick question. Is it worth my while going and getting my car dyno-tested if the clutch is starting to slip? Is it worth while going and getting a fairly accurate read out or am i just urinating into the wind? Still well up for going, this is not an excuse to pull out at all, just wonderin how accurate it will be.

Graham

As far as i know Graham , a slippy clutch shouldn't matter . The process is quite simple . Martin will put the car on the rollers , type in your details into the dynoputer thing and then proceed to drive your car (ever so gently) until it reaches it's full potential BHP and Torque wise . It just means that in testing your car , it'll take a few seconds longer to get there . He won't be over revving the car and will only change up gears to 3rd or 4th cuz after that you start to lose power .

She'd need alot of Imac or go through a fair share of razor blades to keep that hair trimmed down, a ride on lawnmower might be more suitable    Is that milk or coco chocolate Geoff ? I don't think Sue would like what your other friend gets up to when you are in her company

or use my directions...

Westward are just off the main street in Enfield (see red star). On the Galway side of the town there is a turn North towards Trim / Rathmoylan (on left if coming from Galway). Take this turn. Westward are the 1st right turn off this road - its signposted.

sorry i didnt make it to the rolling road day but i have a good excuse.an impulse buy on e-bay took me to england and this machine followed me home.

its a bmw 635csi,1980,a rare manual version with a dogleg box a limited slip diff, leather interior and its a not so rare lightened version(unfortunately the lightened version is a weight decrease caused by rust)the car had been lying idle for 5 years and with a battery it fired up almost straight away, the exhaust is blowing at the manifold and the four brake calipers completely seized to the brake discs.i was offered to have it transported home but i couldnt wait to drive it and i did,50 miles to holyhead which with seized brakes resulted in me burning the clutch out,but it was worth the price of a clutch just to drive it.Again i am sorry for not making the rolling road day as i wanted to see how my car fared out but i had an excuse.

P.S...i have more pics but they are "bitmap" and i could only seem to put up this "jpeg" one also "stuartbyrne" didnt go to the rolling road day as he kindly brought me across for my new toy.

great day... bit dissapointed with my output (102bhp)... Martin said it was running lean.
Must do some power upgrades! I'm thinking chip, filter, powerboost valve. Will this help my lean running prob?

Great to chat to some of you guys.

Paul

Mine was running a little lean also. Bhp was fine (103 vs 102 quoted in handbook), but torque was slightly down (140.1 vs 143 in handbook). Think it needs to be tuned again.

yep, that's not even 2% difference, the accuracy of a dyno is not that good so don't be too disappointed.

Yeah, I guess it's good to see it's close to factory spec. I think the K&N panel filter may be the reason for it running a bit lean.
