This is my car.....a 2001 E46 320D SE in Orient Blue.Comes with full elecs,r/c/l,alarm,digital climate control,traction control,OBC,multi function s/w,cruise control,parking sensors,6 cd changer,17" AC Schnitzer typ2 alloys,rear boot spoiler,clear lenses etc etc.

I haven't defected as yet.........i've an Audi A4 TDi PD115 also

The Bm engine is sweet.......but not a whole lot of torque down low.I was considering a TuningBox (had one on my last car.....a Bora TDi) but i'm not sure now.........might just sell the car and buy a facelift 150bhp version of the 320D.

Surely you cna chip the  current one to 150 although I think the 150 can be chipped to 170+

Guy I know chipped a 330d but took it out again said that it was not as driveable - everytime he dropped the hammer she hit the limiter in seconds and he had to shift again.  I can't see the problem but there you go!?!?!?!?!?

Are you a high mileage runner? You could always defect completely and switch to petrol, straight sixes, 24 Valves and an extra 1500 rpm before the redline!?!?!?!

Not really putting up lots of miles..............but i'm sticking with diesel. It's all about the torque!!!!I considered the 330D.................but i'm not willing to pay the government huge wads of money to tax a 3lt car for the privilege of driving on our roads.

Yep - you can't beat torque - hence a 328 and now an M3.  Buckets of torque but I hear you about the tax.

Its destroying the sale of the 328 and she has only 50,500 miles on her but at 1033 a year to bounce through potholes I can understand where you're coming from.

As stated .......the BM motor is great when up to cruising speed.Around town ,at low speeds (especially pulling away from standstill) the engine seems to bog down..............a far cry from the VAG TDi unit which has an incredible amount of torque low down.

See you are in Coventry..........i'm originally from just down the road,in Rugby, myself.
