South side of Edinburgh here. The map on the website shows two or three others located in the south of Edinburgh, are any of them on here at all? Be good to find out who they are. Also, has Kev managed to find his way on here again? Told us on sunday at the E90 launch that he would be on.

Thats very true, but Mell has done the right thing here as it says in Forum rules.Dont dig up old threads (+ its locked anyway and well out of date)

As for the map its just loads of dots

I know Craig is planning something special for this like hover over the dots to see who is who etc:

So answer the Q lad

Where you from?

Pete -

I am having some trouble accessing the previous link (it keeps trying to log onto modem, when I'm on Broadband), however, it is not locked and can be posted to.

I did do a map which would have linked the dots with members names. It was discussed with Duncan and the idea was rejected - if I remember something to do with showing personal details on the website.

Ah ok its not locked,But i got into trouble once for digging up old threads so a new one wont hurt

As for the location thing

i cant see whats wrong with having it so when you hover over the blue dot it says Pete323,just lets everyone know who is who

also we could have a different colour of dot for members of BMW CarClub and just forum members

I will put this to a vote via email

Its not exactly giving off your house address

The dots with the usernames gets my vote, I think that would be very useful. Any chance of getting a list on the website of usernames, real names and perhaps a mugshot for newbies like me to get to know everyone? It's good after a day out to come on the forum and know who you are speaking to, not guessing! If there is a problem with the Data Protection stuff on the site, you need to get everyone's express permission via email or something that they agree to having their details displayed. It's not like it's their bank details or national insurance numbers.

Where do you live in Edinburgh mate? I'm not a weird stalker person or anything, just wanting to find out about the club members around me! I'm in Millar Place in Morningside. Can't miss the 525 on axle stands! My housegroup leader even saw it when visiting his parents but didn't realise it was mine.

Mark, I know I'm a mad car fanatic and the offer of an M535i is veeeery tempting but I need to finish the 525e and then trim the fleet before I could consider any more cars! Besides, the insurance on an 'M' car of any description would be horrendous at 23 years old. Cheers for the offer though. I'd keep it if I were you - hard to beat the old E28's.

The chevettes.com forum is full of people under 25! You make it sound as if the Chevette is only suitable for pensioners - right wheel drive, direct handling and light weight, what more could you need?! Apart from a fifth gear obviously. I like to drive unusual or interesting cars! It certainly made everyone smile when I drove in at the Hawes Inn for the first time, two rows of pristine BMW's then this little orange car spoiling the party. Nero neatly avoided taking any pictures of it!

Guilty M'lud! It seems faintly ridiculous with all these pristine BMW's at the meet, and then this little orange Chevette. Makes me laugh. You have a certain talent for taking a picture, that is easily the best photo I've ever seen of my car - she actually looks good! Thanks for including her on the site. Still laughing to myself about the ridiculousness of it, I'd just assumed you would avoid her!

Yes please! I often cruise up the side of Loch Lomond as far as Tarbert, then across to Crianlariach and back down to Stirling (to join the boring M9 - boo) round trip of 325 miles. Lovely and relaxing, even if it does consume a tank of fuel! The problem comes between May and September, when every Albert and Ethel seem to converge on our roads in their Micras and Volvos with caravans to travel up those wonderful roads at 25mph. Aaaargh! Get out of the way! I'm considering driving at night instead, but I won't get all the lovely views.

OK, here goes. Take the (newly opened as of 28th April 2005) M77, A77 past Ayr to the A713, this road has every type of road style possible, from the tightest mountain pass once you leave Dalmellington, to wide open North American style sweepers, I have seen speeds fractionally in excess of the national speed limit as on a clear day you can have around 2 mile visibility and no side road intrusions if you have your better half with you I recommend the Plumed Horse an award winning restaurant for a luch stop, but otherwise follow the road to it's end at Castle Douglas, a very pretty market town. Go to Corson the bakers for a snack, then follow the mainstreet to the park at the West end of the town near the Loch, a beautiful spot to photograph the steed in element.

From then you have three choices
1. More of the same by continuing West to Kircudbright for icecream Tynholm for the spiritual home of our own DC, then double back to Ringford along the A75 up the A762 eventuall rejoining the A713 to Ayr.
2. A75 from Castle Douglas to the A714 at Newton Stewart, for a country pub stop at Wigtown keep going on a loop to Whithorn , Monreith and Glenluce back onto the A75 to Stranraer then up the rather more populated A77 to Ayr via Girvan.
3. From Castle Douglas head East on the A75 to Dumfries then the A701, to Moffat and home that way. I am unsure of this route as it is the opposite of the way I go, due to location, so can't comment on the type or heavyness of traffic.

If you give any of these routes a go I am certain the spectre of Loch Doon the Hydroworks and the general scenery will enhance you day, I adore this part of the world as it is our "Best kept secret" racetrack. Just beware in the small villages and most important try not to let the huge grin get in the way of seeing where you are going.

The road from Stranraer up to Moffat and on to Edinburgh is superb, nice and twisty with very little traffic on it. Be nice to try a different route though, cheers Del.

Still it's good to find out some perfect driving roads to take to this summer - hopefully avoiding all the caravans.

So, where is everyone from then? (Back on topic!)

Deeside, 10 miles west of Aberdeen city centre on the A93.

Incidentally, the A93 is a fantastic road all the way to Perth, whether on 2 wheels or 4, and is the highest altitude road in the country.

Del, you need to come up here some weekend!
