have found a 530i m reg, 95 with just 60K on the clock at £4.5K with a reputable local non-BMW dealer. It's in v good condition and drives well. BMW Bracknell tell me though that it hasn't had the Nikasil issue addressed. I'm also going to get an AA check done on the car.

The big question is - even if the car isn't showing symptoms of the Nikasil issue - should I buy it?

I've put a £500 deposit down subject to the full paperwork (haven't seen any yet) and the AA check. The dealer is throwing in a years warranty.

Any advice or info most gratefully received

Hi nodz I just bought  a 1995 328 coupe without reading all the facts about the nikasil problem. Now I ve read an in depth report on it I still dont know whether I should have risked it or not.  The car has done 134000 miles doesn't smoke, doesn't seem to use any oil, & goes like sh-- off the shovel. As soon as I got it I had a full service done by independent bmw specialist Forrest Motors of Lincoln ( I have used him many times before & theres not much he doesn't know about bm's) I asked him what he thought & he said it must have had an engine change at some time so I checked with BMW GB, they said there was no record of an engine change.  I do know the problem was much worse in the north of England where supermarkets were buying cheap South American petrol with a very high sulphur content which destroys the nikasil bores. I dont know if this is any help to you but all the best with the car .  Regards Den. Norton
