Since you are keeping your beemer and didnt declare what your company car was,  one logical conclusion is that your new car is not a beemer and most likely a Rover (without  warranty)

believe me, if it was a rover i wouldn't have accepted the job, image and all that...

its a new pug 307

I like the stylish sports model pug 307 and 206. Stylish and sleek and pretty decent drive too especially for town ride they can be quite comfortable rides with quick starts at traffic points.

Could be worse, as said previously could be a Rover. lol

Nice going getting a company car.  I have to earn my stripes first before I can qualify for a company car but I'll opt out and take the cash equivalent and keep the E39 going or buy a bigger faster newer one!  (shh don't tell the Mrs!) Hmm E39 or a 1.6i Focus - difficult decission!

Can you not opt to take the cash or do you have to take the company car?

I'd love a company car to use on business instead of hammering/tearing the ar$e out of/ the E39 up and down from Inverness to Llandudno and all the dirt tracks that lead to the railway sites I visit.

Means you will be able to cherish your Bm even more, only use it at weekends and in good weather to keep it in tip top condition.

Snow, ice, skanky roads - use the company Pug!

Andrew

Are the tax laws there similar to her ewhereby you must pay Benefit In Kind (BIK) on a company car?

How much have you been stung by your BMW insurance for having use of a company car!!

I have just received renewal of £695, 6000miles only for my 1990 E30 M3!! Last year, it was £555.

If you are being taxed for private use, then I would suggest you take it and reduce the mileage use on your BMW othewise it will start to eat away at your pocket.

well my dad got petrol as well a car worth £30,000 plus all brakedowns parts etc was included init, the miles he did in it he was much better off haveing a company car, each to there own but as i said  certain cars now have cheaper tax on them

its really up to you, a lot of people are finding it more
beneficial to own their own and take the car
allowance instead. I know quite a few of the people
in my place are now taking the allowance instead of
the car.

 thanks for everyones support

the pug will be used privately, i realise i will be taxed on this, and ill have to put fuel in for private use, but it means my car can stay in the garage throughout the week instead of running back and forth to work (which was a 42 mile round trip, with this new job its within walking distance) and come out to play at weekends (weather permitting) and for more trips to car club events, thus saving on wear & tear, mileage and petrol (with optimax now at 93.9p a litre at the local Shell).

handed my letter of resignation in today, had to give one months notice, but ive got holidays and time off due so hopefully thats negotiable

Cheers

Yeah, still carrying on with the NiTe thing... but work is getting tedious at Network Rail and theres far too much girly b....ching between the "supposedly" grown men in my dept, for me to be doing with.

This new one involves installing/upgrading IT systems in GP surgeries/practices throughout the NorthWest ..so will no doubt be full of a cold from one week to the next.

Why is it you always come out of a doctors surgery with more things wrong with you, than you go in with?

Because generally they are young, have too much money, and want to play.

I didn't do anything extreme, but I did paint the bonnet on my HA viva matt black, adding a white stripe over the car etc, I also put a "grass cutting" front spoiler on my MGB.

My dad viewed these modifications with the same level of amusement we now view what the youngsters of today are doing.

Woohoo, I agree with Coasting! What is the point?

well its just a hobbie the same as yours. they take an interest in making there cars look the way that they want them too while you take an interest in your beemers. i dont see why it annoys people so much. anyway are your cars not modified in a way?

what is wrong with max power it seems to take a great interest in everyones taste of cars especally yours. THEY LOVE BEEMERS!!

the way i see it is they are just the same as you.laughing at them isnt bad it is just you shouldnt take the p**s out of them for having an interest in something you dont have an interest for!

-------------

Posted By: Coasting
Date Posted: 01-May-2005 at 15:44

I'm not laughing at them for having an interest, and if you believe most of them do it for 'interest' then I disagree.

The fact is most of them drive like morons, and they drive like morons because they have tacked stupid bits of ridiculous plastic and paint to their cars that have no purpose whatsoever - they do it because they are obsessed with giving the impression that their cars are something they are not.

Sorry, but you can call it an interest if you want but in my experience that applies to only a very small minority of them who manage to do it tastefully or successfully.

Whether they like Beemers or not, I don't see how that is material to my argument that cars given the Max Power treatment look utterly crap.  The same applies to BMW owners who do it dis-tastefully.  The odd tasteful addition here or there isn't something I have any distain for - it's when someone tries to clearly transform their car into something it certainly isn't that it becomes laughable.

Let me give you an example - there is an 04 plated BMW 320Ci in the vicinity of where I live.  It's very nice.

So why, oh why, would he want to add 18" M3 wheels to it, an M3 rear badge and fake M3 stick-on grilles to the wings??????

What possesses someone to do that to a nice car!!!!

I laugh at him every time I see him and so do a good number of other people I know in the area.

It's the ultimate Burberry Chav on Wheels.

So we'll have to agree to disagree.  As I said, why try and make something out to be something it isn't?  Why don't they just save their money and actually get the thing they're trying to make it look like!!!! (On saying that, most of them look nothing like whatever it is they're meant to look like anyway!!).

i do agree that alot of them drive like ****s and some of them are very dis-tastefully modified but its just your oppion and you do have a very good oppion on them but tarring them all with the same brush is a bit unfair.

alot of people that are jelous of bmw drivers call them ignorant just because they dont have a beemer is abit unfair aswell but you must agree some people that drive beemers do look down their noses at people that have cars that arent worth as much.

the people that do that simply dont deserve a car like a bmw because they are the ones that give bmw drivers and cars like them the bad name. its just the same with the modding scene and im sure alot of people on this site alone will agree with me.

Stephen,

Back on topic, now that coasting has stopped his whining.

Have you considered using the pug as the daily hack, sell your e46 (which is depreciating all the time) and buy an e30 m3 as a show/meet/hobby car.

A mint e30 wont depreciate also you will have even more enjoyment of BM ownership since it is one of the best drivers cars ever, without losing $$$$ on it.

Just a thought....

Neil

Neil, how about you just recognise the fact that all users have the right to post an opinion.

If you construe that as whining then frankly that's your blinkered problem, not mine.

Everyone has a right to their own oppinions, just as everyone who owns a car has a right to do what they want to it as long as it's road legal.
Some cars are tastefully modified (in the end it's only making them unique to the owner). Some are utter bodge ups.
Some people hate Picasso because of his abstract expressionist style etc.. I'm sure artists of the day would have a similar argument.
Afterall, personalisation comes in many forms, different wheels, aftermaket wings of various sizes, and not just the alu ones - ASC Mtec etc. Then there are the unseen mods, engine mapping, leads, filters etc.
In the same reasoning, can't aftermarket angel eye units and clear lenses be held in the same way, just as lexus lights fitted to a corsa etc. Angeleyes are now available for other cars, not just BMW's.

Nero, did those bags come as part of the luggage with your car???  Colour coded too...nice

Come on guys. Less of this goading and moaning.
You all remind me of a friend of mine. His mother in Law used to tell him that everyone has a right to his opinion. She could never understand when he replied "I disagree"
Its a sunny bank holiday. Get a life!

It's a tempting idea, but finding an owner willing to sell a mint E30 M3 (Evolution II in black or red ?) for "sensible" money would be difficult in itself, plus there's the cost of keeping it that way (oi! who said clean? )

This is astonishing.  Are some of you even old enough to drive?  From the drivel you write I can only presume not.

To Ally - I would point out that it was actually a Moderator who posted a picture of a modded Peugeot with a humourous "mmm" associated with it, and there was nothing wrong with him doing so too.  Yes, I took the topic off on a tangent from that, but threads develop into all kinds of arena's - that's what a discussion forum does.  I can point to other threads, many of which I note have you in them, in which you take them off topic?  But I don't.

However, I am absolutely sick and tired of frankly childish and immature idiots such as coupe_king then launching completely unnecessary personal attacks on people by somehow coming to the conclusion that everything I say I feel I must be right on???

It is called debate.  I have an opinion, someone else has an opinion, we debate it, we sometimes agree, we sometimes disagree, how on earth does that mean I think I'm always right???

In actual fact you are the one exhibiting a total distain for others opinions by your flaming of me for actually having an opinion.

Sorry guys, but this forum is about debate and if you don't want to take part in it and have nothing better to do than pass your ill-informed, unintelligent and completely irrational comments in my direction then please do me favour and take them back to school with you, or perhaps discuss them with your Mum and Dad over tea tonight before you go to your bedrooms.

When you can hold a reasoned debate with me I would respond appropriately, until then, stop the flaming and start the debating and make this a REAL forum instead of the sham it has turned into.

This will be my last ever post on BMWCC Forums because it simply doesn't represent what the BMWCC purports to be and does nothing but to encourage flaming by its continual laizzez-faire attitude to those that are the real offenders in a supposed shared community of car enthusiasts.

Stephen - my apologies for this being constituent in your thread, but it had to be said and I wish you the best of luck in your new position.

I think it's congratulations to Stephen on his new job plus company car, same to Mr praktisk - well done sir.
So before this topic gets out of hand, I thinks it's time to draw it to a close.
