Another wet and soggy day has dawned and another thread locked after everyone else goes to bubbyes...and done by the one who stays hidden...

I see you visited my favourite site yesterday too Wendy. They are a very varied bunch on there, from all over the world and sometimes their grasp of the language can be a bit off the mark, but they are decent people and they do enjoy a bit of fun too

Well yesterday we were sorting out a good fish recipe for a romantic dinner for one member and his 'friend'..he wouldn't say if it was his g/f though lol

Not bad for a site that deals mainly with world aviation subjects...especially aircrashes, is it?

Talking about fish frying is light relief after a very long, and sometimes heated discussion about TCAS/ATC failures..as per what happened in the Bashkirian/DHL mid-air collision a few years ago.

TCAS = Traffic Collision Avoidance System. ATC=Air Traffic Control...for those confuzzled by what TCAS/ATC means.

In answer to you final post on 'Nutters' thread, Nigel, where I agree that this is a car site and yes there is a chatroom, at the latter end of the Neverending thread a chatroom was set up but the thread still continued, plus in a chatroom there is no continuity from one day to the next like on a thread such as this. These threads are a good place to unwind and relax and talk about nothing in particular, the chatroom is good for those without the various 'instant messaging' programmes and for those wishing to discuss meets etc that posting on threads isn't appropriate.

There are reasons for continuing these 'silly' threads as well as reasons to stop them. Abusive or offensive posts require stopping, no-one can or will disagree with that, but stopping them for the sake of stopping them, well to me anyway, that oversteps things a little.

The chatroom and these threads are not in any way the same thing, we can have fun in both but they are not the same.

Bad language or anything deemed offensive should always be deleted but general silliness as long as its neither abusive or offensive does no harm whatsoever.

At the end of the day no-one is forced to read or take part in these threads...along with every other thread onsite.

I'm caught in the crossfire here, Nigel is a friend and got me into BMW's, the club and the forums, but most of the people on these threads are also friends. If there is a good reason for closing these I have yet to hear it.

I have asked several times, by pm if they don't want it on view, for a reason why these threads MUST be stopped, I don't have much time at present to come on at present.but I support the right of free speech as long as there's no abuse or bad language. Several people have said no one is forced to read these threads, yet I'm still waiting to hear why they are so bad they must be stamped out.

Ok, it's a car site. There are/have been threads about Blair, ps games, politics, jokes, even Dr Who(must have a look at that one). None of them have been as rigorously policed. Will everything NOT directly car related be stopped now? Possibly, as Killian has posted his wish to end the non club issues bit. Do the majority agree with this? Got to go, Dr Who's on soon!

I for one think it would be a shame to get rid of this entire section. I also think it would alienate people just as making the entire site a paid members only one. All sites I have seen, whether big or small and regardless of their subject matter have an area where people can let off steam, have a laugh, discuss matters of the day an so forth. These areas vary in the rules allowing language etc but they are popular and well used. Most of these sites also have a chatroom too. And as long as those of us who use this section on a regular basis don't use profanities or be offensive, then I personally don't see any reason to close it. If the moddygyrators don't have time to check the threads due to length, thats OK cos alot of the time we keep tabs on them ourselves and can report back to moddygyrators if anything has been done or said that may fall foul of the rules of the site.

I hope the section isn't closed, I would like to think that it won't be.

But then, I'm just one voice in a very big forum membership.

There is no reason why the section can't be self policed and that takes the onus off the moddygyrators who have enough to look after elsewhere on the site. Any possible infringements of the rules can be passed onto them and they can deal with it in the normal way by loads of red pen everywhere...

Why not try it for a week or so, see how it works and then see what should be done.

Not rebellion at all Ivan, just an offer to take some of the workload off the moddygyrators in respect to reading through the longer threads on this section. Reporting back to them and they doing the red pen bit will remain as it is now.

Don't forget the frilly knickers, horns, whips, body protection stuff....

But I agree with you Ian, it does seem strange that the goalposts have changed places on this, but as I said above, I am just a very small voice in a huge site.

I prefer the Cybermen...they were more frightening than Daleks.

When I was very young those Cybermen terrified me...I now realise of course that they were just programme extras dressed up in silver lycra with hairdryers stuck on their heads, but when you are 9yrs old...they were SCARY!!!!

Nah, Cybermen naff, mind you a lot of the monsters were. I always remember Louise Jameson as the female Tarzan type coming up as he struggled to find a complicated solution to "the Swarm" saying "Dr DR I've found the answer" and when he looked up "Stab them in the neck", it was hilarious.

Ah yes, nicking a pair of the wifes leggins/tights on those cold and wintery days, to keep the old pins warm under the damp leathers (with the baggy back end).

..so I have been told by biker friends, while I'm nice and toasty in my lovely warm car..

Baggy backend lol.. old leathers that are used to the seated position. I've got a set of leathers, unfortunatly the old Franks are a bit on the baggy side (should have bought a smaller pair and sat in a bath to bed them in).
Never did get round to getting the full accelerated bike course though.

Ian, I think he's saying his baggy backend is like tough old leather until he sits in the bath!
