Hi everybody. Here's my problem:

The horn wasn't working at all when the steering wheel button was pressed. So I took it apart and found that when the steering wheel bolt wasn't tight the horn worked, as soon as you tightened the bolt it stopped working. So I cleaned up the connections etc etc and now when the steering wheel is tightened it only works in certain position!!

As you can understand this is doing my head in! I've been back and forward from scrappies looking for clues and spent hour after hour on it and can't get it right.

If anyone has ever shared the same anguish or know any better please help me!!

Cheers Geo1400

Sounds like the contact track - a copper tack on the rear of the steering wheel which contacts a (carbon) brush in the steering column. Either of these could be causing the problem. Check there isn't too much grease in certain spots...

Thanks for the reply but i've checked and renewed the copper tracks.

I've managed to get it down to the fact the steering column isn't earthed. If I attach a wire to the spring in the column and then earth it seperatly the horn works fine. But there's no way of leaving a wire there because it just gets mashed up when steering. Even if I earth it where the column comes out through the bulkhead the horn works.

So I was wondering if you or anybody knows where the steering column gets its earth from? cause mine ain't there!!

Cheers for the help. Geo1400
