Wonder if it's been started in the last 18 years, body may well be good but mechanically who knows, all the rubber bushes and pipes could be perished.

its a car from the famous Tim Hignett L&C BMW collection, so will have been perfectly maintained over the years.
after it was sold from the collection it was hawked around the auction scene I believe. price of 15,000 was sought.
this one will stick for ever unless the current owner/seller has drastically realigned his expectations.

This is a museum piece.
You would only ever bring it out for shows, concours classes, etc. ....and even then, you might only want to bring it in on a trailer, for fear that the mileage might reach three figures.....

Spoke to Nigel earlier, he explained it was from a collection where it would have been maintained and looked after.
Personally I can't see the point of buying a car that can't be used for fear of lowering it's value. I know people do buy them and do as Horsetan says. Nice to see one in such good condition. Shame it'll never be used as BMW intended but I expect someone will give it a good home. Prices are looking up - ask RobsE23, lol!

Cars like this (good as they are) won't really sell on the open market such as eBay or Autotrader, as the buyers on these places don't want a car like this, he's best putting it in a proper auction, there it may realise a good price, but £10? (or £15??) I wouldn't know!

Fair comment, it would be worth a lot as a concours show car to the right person, but to the likes of me it's worthless as I like to drive the cars, and no-one is going to put this into daily use!

I don't believe this motor is worthy of being a museum piece so why not buy it and run it as an everyday car? There's a good chance you'll get 10 years of relatively cheap motoring out of it and it will be very individual too. On that basis, it must be worth a couple of thousand? Look at it as a viable alternative to a 10 year old 328 with 100k on the clock... Just don't regard it as a 'classic' because it's a base model at the end of the day.

great idea Chas. forget storing it. treat it as a cheap new car. use & enjoy it for 10 years, then chuck when something big breaks.
I know its a yucky colour but I reckon it could be used for weddings.
it could also be registered with agencies that supply vehicles for film & TV work when they need "period" vehicles for a street scene.

There's a thought, the quest for authenticity these day is intense. Been watching the odd episode of "proffesionals" and "sweeney" on Men&Motors enjoying seeing the cars I remember from my youth (no, not model T's I'm only 50!)

A black E23 also featured in the early background scenes in "The Fourth Protocol" starring Michael Caine and Pierce Brosnan.....

Everyone has to start somewhere, but ebay is geeting quite a rep at present for new zero feedback sellers who disappear after bidding. More and more sellers are putting in zero or less than 5 feedback email first or bids will be cancelled. Wonder how many "0" feedbacks bid on the live 8 tickets?

people quite rightly bid £10m on the live8 tickets to wreck the auctions. ticket sellers hoping to make profits from charity gig tickets they got for free. nice people

Oh I agree, not condoning it! The one I saw quoted had the cheek to say "poor student needs money to repay student loan" - so he sells a free charity ticket for thousands! Any monies raised should have gone to the charity not the seller. Sir Bob was rightly outraged!
