He's talkin about the Terenure College Classic car show.

Here's a link to the details:
http://www.irishjagclub.ie/show.html - Classic car show

If we don't get a few of our cars on show to promote the club we are complete idiots.Great opportunity with little cost!

Who would be on for putting their cars there for the day...I'd say a Cecetto M3 would be tasty....oh and a nice M5 (kin mak) and we need a nice e36 M3 (martin or Robbie) and a nice e46 (alpine white). Now that would form the basis for a nice stand!!! We can then add a few of our own more standard cars in there too! Maybe Murphy and Gunn could supply a few exotic machines also.

My only contact with Larry is through his work e-mail address, which I am not going to give out unless he allows me. I will e-mail him Monday and when he gets back to me I will get back to the group.

I would recommend going even if there is not enough room on the BMW site for your own car. You could wear club clothing and promote the club, there could be another 50 or more new members to be found. also if the weather is fine it could be a chance for another BBQ

Yes Larry is a member of the club. He told me 2 weeks ago he is very busy with work commitments, but this does not mean that his commitment to the BMW Car Club is not second to none. He said then that he would be contacting historic BMW owners first.

If you look at the BMWcarclubireland website you will see a picture of his beautiful silver 2002 Turbo. The photo was taken at the Show and Shine 2 years ago (it won rather easily!)

And as Nigel said some people don't like forums.

So does that mean that the rest of the lads have to wait and see if the historic lads take up places first and then see if the rest of us modern day Beemers are allowed to attend?????

If that is the case then maybe next year because its probably to late now we will have to have Club stand which allows all years of Beemers to be displayed

Might get talking to the organisers this week myself to see if I can pull anything out of the hat for the rest of us at this stage (they owe me a few favours)

Hi all below is Larry's reply to my contact with him. Now will everyone who wants to be on the stand let me know and I will forward the information to Larry. Name and Car, PM me with a contact number that I can send to Larry, if we have 20 cars on the stand it will the second biggest event for the club after the track day

Hi Gerard,
Sorry for not replying to you sooner. I am only back
from the UK today. Basically, I have being neglecting the Show
due to pressure of work. I probably should have said I did not havethe time to organise things properly, however, I will probaly deal with this on a last minute basis. I have booked 20 spaces at Terenure, so if you count my 2002 and my brothers Z4 we would need another 18 cars to fill the spaces. It would be great if you could use the club forum to recruit more exhibitors. I think models up to E30 would be best, but its only my personal opinion. There are loads of classics on the members register, but i will not have time to phone potential exhibitors. I will
be away until the Sat. pm of the show, but I will organise some display bits and pieces if the members can provide the cats.
Regards,
Larry

Richie

In fairness, I don't think Larry's view is unreasonable.  The title of the show is "14th Irish Classic & Vintage Motor Show".

The definition of classic is open to debate on the fine points, but its reasonable to imagine that current mainstream models in any range won't yet have attained what is perceived as "classic" status, even if we can probably give a reasonable guess of current or recent cars that have the potential to be.  It takes a while for a car to be regarded as having attained classis status and 15-20 years is a reasonable starting point for for the process of deciding.  Its no reflection on the newer cars.

No larry said he would like models up to E30 but that was his opinion but if a Z4 is attending then that means all can display the show is only called classic because that is what it originally started as but now is open to all old and new cars. The event is also for charity and Norman Wisdom was at the event last year as he is a friend of one of the organisers. I have to work at the event so I cannot help at the stand but can help in other ways as some of ye might know

Even boy racer Max Power cars are allowed attend it just hasn't had a name cahnge to just a car show

I agree Dergside...it is a classic car show and thats fine.Maybe it's nit the opportunity we're lookin for.Think I'll be goin a a spectator to this one.

I think this show promotes a very different side of the club that we are all heavily involved in. It's more for the guys in the 2002 club who meet every Tuesday...they'd benefit more I think.

Likewise Richie, I hope to get a chance to toddle along to it.

It may be a different perspective on the club, but its equally valid.  I think its important that we try to avoid a "them" and "us" attitude in club activities, whatever the "them" and "us" may be, old, new, modified, motor sport, etc.

Having gone the the Terenure Show several times at this stage, there is plenty of "non-classic" cars there too.  So much so that the Irish modified car club (not sure of their offical name) were there in force last year.  They attracted a lot of attention... but I don't think it was the attention they wanted.  One BMW they abused struck a cord with me.

As for BMW stand, I felt the few cars that were there were vintage/classics in the true sense of the word, but that was it... there was VERY few of them.  In fact, I think it was last year when I only remember 2 cars at the side of the field with space obviously booked for more but with no other cars to fill it.

I agree and also think that its important that we try to avoid a
"them" and "us" attitude in club activities but that has to be a two
way street. Is it a case of send the info to Larry and he can
decide on what constitutes the best representation of the
BMW CAR Club and everybody waits for his
decision? sounds a bit undemocratic to me particularly if the
suggesstion is that the forum be used as a hunting ground for
suitable models that may or may not be acceptable!

And you'd be right Fey. The club is never exclusive or snobbish. I guess this is a bit different as it IS a classic car show.
I always say the more the merrier regardless of age, condition, power or whatever.

My car is no showcar but I'd be happy to have it on the stand and hand out leaflets.

I don't think its the case Aubergine.  I'm not sure if the space has been booked in the name of (or ata cost to) the club.  Either way, I don't think he is dictating anything, but the guy has taken the time to organize something that others have talked about, so I'd say it does give him a leadership role in the situation.

What is displayed is more of a case of "horses for courses", in the same way that you might wonder if its appropriate to show a std '02 at a show like Bimmerfest.

Congratulations!! you have found the one and only independent manufacturer-recognised Club for those interested in BMW cars in the UK. We are a Club run by and for our members, and aim to provide something for everyone interested in the marque - whatever the age of the car or the member.

Hi all Gerard here Can you PM me if you are going and I will pass on your name to Larry. The show is a classic car show, but I agree even a new car can be a classic.

But the BMW car club is not the organisor of the show it is the Jaguar car club that is the organisor and we should respect the theme they have put a lot of work into. But to me if we manage to have a 3 series '02, E21, E30, E36, E46, E90 display that would be a brilliant display of a classic evolution. Same applies with Zs 5s 7s 6s 8s etc. So when it comes to setting up the site on the day, we should make the effort to park the cars in historic sequences to get the public interested in how a classic evolves

My apologies for making these suggestions when I will not be there to help as I a competing in a Hillclimb at Dungarvan (I know I'm not in a BMW but a lowly Fiat Ritmo)

Get does PMs to me so I can keep Larry informed.

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum (and the club), I am a mate of M3Dave, I would be happy to bring my E90 320 if everyone is happy that modern cars should attend. If so are you meeting somewhere first, or just going straight to the show, if so what time.

Not good Mark....you'll have to start parking in corners of car parks far far away from other people.Thats what I do! The 2 mile walk to the door of the shop is good for me anyway

I was talking to Larry Armstrong just now about the show and the consensus is to give priority to classic cars (up to E30) and if any room afterwards then to newer cars.
As there are only 20 places it won't really be a first come first served basis but will need to be relatively selective so for example my E39 (which I don't want to show anyway!) would be towards the bottom of the list.
However, if we can build a generation row of say 3 series cars then it would look really impressive. To do this, we would need an E21, E30, E36 & E46 & E90.
I am also trying to get the Batmobile that was in Duffys last year on board and am about to phone someone about an old 319FN.

General preferences in order would be:-
* Vintage & Historics
* Classics (02 family, CS/CSi/CSL, E3, etc.)
* newer classics (E21 & E30 3 series, E24 (the real 6!!!), E12 & E28 5er, E23 7er.

Apparently Larry asked Martin Birrane in Mondello to use the M1 but this  will be staying firmly in Mondello. Hopefully I can get them to let it loose in October.

There needs to be a slight biasedness here due to the nature of the show and there is no intention to disappoint anyone.

Just to clarify things a little bit. The 14th Irish Classic and Vintage Motor Show is Organised by the Irish Jaguar and Daimler Club in the grounds of Terenure College, Dublin 6W on Sunday 10th July 2005.

Larry Armstrong is organising a BMW Car Club Stand and would prefer to have cars up to early 90s on the stand. He has booked 20 places. He would like to 2002, BMW 2000, Isetta, CS coupe and other cars of a classic ie older nature. All are welcome to the event to help promote the club at the stand and view the other non BMW stands. I have had a preview of 2 cars that will be there, one a recently imported 1971 Corvette Stingray convertible and the other a 68 (I think) Camaro convertible.

So do come along even if you don't have an older classic BMW there will be lots to see and do.

I just drop in to this forum now and again, but not a club member.

I plan to go on Sunday. I've a tidy(ish) standard E28 that can be used if wanted. Let me know in time to transfer the insurance. If not wanted, no worries; I'll be there anyway with my old Mercedes (in the carpark).

One suggestion for you drivers of newer cars - get there early and park together in the car park. I notice that there are often as nice cars in the car park as in the show itself. I've noticed people wandering around cars in the car park at previous shows.

Your E28 would be a good car to put on show as this is now a classic!

Mad isn't it!

It was just an old car when I got it but have noticed it gets more attention (both negative and positive) than newer cars.

Are we still going ahead with the generation of the 3 series idea ? 2002 to E90 in whatever varients turn up, myself and mark will be there with bells on, that gives us an E30 M3 and an E90 320, can we fill the gaps ?

To my knowledge, nobody has volunteered an E21, E30 or E36 - corrent me if Im wrong!
