Funny noise at just under 3k RPM

Have noticed that a strange rattlting noise is heard at just under 3k RPM, in both 3rd & 4th gear.

My clutch is soon to be replaced due to it leap-frogging when pulling off - wondering whether this is the likely cause (thrust bearing someone mentioned) or is it likely my gear box is on the way out too.
