Topic: Bought my new car today!
Posted By: Coasting
Subject: Bought my new car today!
Date Posted: 29-July-2005 at 18:14

Well, as a few of my fellow North-Easterners know I have been looking to change from the M3 Cab for a good month or so now.

You name it, I've looked at it.

Noble's, TVR's, Porsche's, Audi's, BMW's, everything.

After 2 full days (almost) of negotiating...I have done a deal.

I can still 'officially' come to the meets too!  Because I have bought another Beemer.

So, I pick this up in the next 10 days or so.  A big change from the M3, but oh what a noise and the power delivery is sooooo smooth and full of torque...truly a pleasure to drive - and too easy to drive very fast indeed!

Here are photo's of the ACTUAL car I've bought.  I didn't intending buying brand new when I started out on this journey, but what the hell, it'll only sit in the bank for my wife to fritter away!

BMW 645Ci Convertible

It has more toys than Hamleys at Christmas time with lots of totally unnecessary options (but hey, they might come in handy once in a lifetime!) and the noise of the 4.4 litre V8 is lurrrrveerrrly.

See you all at a meet in the near future hopefully!

..and having read the brochure this morning I have just discovered that the hood operate whilst the car is moving at up to 20mph!

Wayhey!  I loved that feature on the 997 911 C2 but didn't realise the 6-series did it too.

It has always been a flaw, IMO, on the M3 Cab, so I'm delighted to have discovered that this morning!

Congratulations Chris, nice colour....is it Sterling Grey?

Regarding the hood, the Z4 does the same, it is usefull when in the town or at traffic lights etc. Saves having to find somewhere to pull over and drop the hood.

Nice choice, I much prefer the current 6 to the 5 and with the roof down they do look really nice. As others have said that V8 makes such a loooverly sound.

Here are a few more pics I took in normal daylight today (that being grey skies and the fact it was persistantly raining) when I went to take my reg.no. docs for the plate transfer.

I went out for a good 20 minute blast in it too - and boy am I one very happy person!  I think I'm going to have to drive everywhere with the rear slot window down all of the time...just to hear the growl of the exhausts!

Sorry for any over excitement!

Good point - boot space is dreadful in the 645.

Much worse than in the M3 Cab.

I'll be able to just about fit the 2 year olds smallest collapsible pushchair into it - but large suitcases will go nowhere near it!

I'll be up to silverlink come next Monday, just for a 'test drive' of any M3 cab in yellow, that they might happen to have floating around the place...........

Yep, the irony is that it'll be there alongside my PREVIOUS E46 M3 COUPE!

It turns out that the people who bought that when I part-exchanged it for the E46 M3 Cab have changed to an X5 this week!

So I'm hoping to be able to get a shot of all 3 cars lined up!

The old E46 M3, the 'old' E46 M3 Cab, the new 645!

Jealous, moi?

Mind you, your monthly depreciation is more than I would pay for a car

I saw a silvery 6 drop top near Newburn B&Q yesterday. Could have been you?

Posted By: Coasting
Date Posted: 03-August-2005 at 12:08

Nope....I haven't taken delivery of the car yet.

Depreciation is just a fact of life unless you're buying a classic and it's almost always going to be commensurate with the value of the car you're buying.

E46 M3's are dropping money by the shedload right now - so if you're buying anything less than 3 years old you're going to be hit hard in todays market

That's why I went for the six. I figure I'd be paying less in increased petrol bills than I was paying on depreciation for my Audi.

My E30 Touring probably won't lose much of it's £2k price either.

If you can afford a brand new 645 I dare say you can afford the depreciation.

Shame you can't make it tonight Chris. Gonna be quite a convoy!

My whole diary is a list of 'cannot makes' right now!

Even to the point that we're now having to move our holiday!  There's a cost to that too but I'll be compensated for it, but things don't get much more hectic than they are at the moment.

Have a good one and hopefully we can have a mini-meet-run before too long?

There were spaces but I think yesterday was the deadline? (Tim - E46ACS?) It's a shame your car would have made a nice addition to the pack...

I am not sure what time I will be able to get to Gaydon on Sunday but will defo try to be there at some point to see the guys from the NE and nick some of the sausages and burgers from the Scot lads!

You've got my mobile number if you can make it.... I'm sure there will be a large convoy back home in the evening!!

Cheers
