Hi,

Went to the show at Tatton on Saturday, was a good show, the weather was quality and there was some really nice stuff there.

Now i often here of people after 325i sports and i wander if they are serious or not?

I spoke to this lad who had a gorgeous metalic black one, under the bonnet was like brand new, it was class.

He was telling me 18 months ago he paid 5250 for it has spent another 1800 in last 6 months and is now selling it due to the dreaded 'new house' for 4500. He said hed had it in the trader but no one had called! nor had he had anyone of pistonheads etc!

Is the market dead or is this one unlucky guy? I put mine up for sale at 4250 and again not much interest, in my case i will just keep it rather than give it away. But has the ass fell out of the sport market?

Nice standard unmolested sports with reasonable mileage and documentation still get strong money.  These are now old cars and as a result the market is unfortunately full of councilled up ,rusty ,high mileage scrap owned by deluded dreamers who have been reading to many WLN ads and consider their cars to be in the same league.

A lot of cars were going to ireland at one stage, i think that market may have cooled slightly but it did have the effect of pushing up prices here.  A nice unrusty proper car advertised in the right places  i.e pistonheads ,bmw glossies etc is still a saleable commodity.

£4500??

That is quite high, I would have thought...

I paid less than that for my nice clean E30 M3 only a few months ago. OK, it wasn't mint, but it is slowly getting back to everything as it should be and it has low miles, very original and a fair bit of history...

When the far rarer Motorsport Cabriolets go for around the £5000-6000 mark, I'd say your/his asking price is a bit top heavy...

I've seen a few good ones for sale locally to me for £1k ish less than that (dunno the history of them, though)

1k = a shed mate.

An M3 for 4500 is probably more hassle than its worth.

But thanks for your thoughts

nah...wasn't saying £1k...I said £1k LESS than your price range (ie: £3000-3500)

I take your point about M3s...However, I bought mine from a recommended person who had imported it herself and looked after it well...using people I would trust and recommend.
She wanted to sell it hassle-free and quickly...paid £3950 for it and, whilst it wasn't top spec or absoloutly mint, it is a rust-free and low mileage car in original condition....What I wanted, anyway!

I did look at a few others, including a couple on eBay....and, yep, some were dogz! On the other hand, the one I ended up with wasn't the only decent one at around the same price...It can be done!

Well they are defo still coming over here. In our autotrader every week there will be a 325iS on English plates. They usually dont last either. There has defo been a huge upsurge in the past 2 years. The 325iS and even the any of the coupe E30's are like the Toyota Corolla Twincam - everybody wants them but as you all keep saying its hard to get a good one.

Good on you pal every buyer wants a bargain..... Every seller wants a fair price.

Nice to hear there is still demand in Ireland may start to advertise it proper soon, as i say pistonheads only at the min. But it is mint i did 500 mile round trip to get it!

Chap, try an advert on E30zone....Biggest concentration of e30 nuts on there and they will certainly know the right price and, most likely, someone to buy it!

I would have to agree. I have had my E30 M3 for about 2 years and I classed it as a good one when I bought it (paid much more than 4,500 for it) only 100k km on the clock, full service with an absolute mint interior. However I have spent just about £4,000 to actually make it a good one replacing brakes, suspension and a total paint job (wasnt gonna mess around with painting an odd wing and plastic etc).

When its finished it will be a good one.

My problem is I can't find one to buy. Its always the same. When you have money in your pocket for a good car they all disappear!

Ah well the search continues...
