I'm having a slight problem with my 96 E36 318is Coupe (80k).

For as long as I can remember the acceleration has been smooth and without problem, but just recently it started to hesitate when cold but clear when warm.  In the last couple of weeks, it's started to hesitate when warm as well.

It's idling fine and isn't misfiring in any way so I'm assuming that plugs aren't an issue (changed about 18 months ago I think).

I've seen people mention coils but wouldn't they produce a misfire if one or more failed?

Others have mentioned Mass Air Flow sensors, Oxygen sensors and more but I really have little idea at the moment.

I'm not seeing any fault lights on the dash but others suggest these can flash on momentarily when you have coil/sensor problems, but again I haven't noticed that.

The only thing I'm getting is a bit of a rattle from under the floor of the car at low revs, sounds very much like exhaust baffle rattle but it hasn't been causing any problems so haven't bothered too much about it.

Any advice you can provide would be appreciated.
