I received an e-mail from the current owner which reads as follows:

"Hi, just a long shot, the car never sold unfortunately and I now have until the end of September to vacate the garage where it is parked. I'd be very grateful if you could ask around to see if anyone would be interested in coming to view the car - I'm now off nightshifts so it's a lot easier to arrange a suitable time. The car is way to good to scrap and I would be very disappointed if I had to do so. Please e-mail me if you can help. Many thanks, Graham.

This is the car which was on http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4563095567 - e-Bay in July , starting at £50.

I've asked the owner for his contact number which I would be happy to PM to interested E23 enthusiasts..... Since the car is, in theory, just up the M1 from where I live, I would be happy to help examine the vehicle / take assessment photos.

Horsey, I've notified AG & the rest of the E23 nutters on their new home, the 7 Resource.

Andy G and myself are after front susp legs and this honey has new ones fitted.

Lets see if AG wants to grab this car.

I'll have a look tonight as I cannot access ebay here!
But I don't really need a spares car, besides the problem of storage. However I will search through my lists to see what I could do with and take it from there!

My wife would kill me if I turned up with another scrapper!

advert here AG:

BMW 735i Auto SE.  1984, Metallic silver / blue, blue velour interior. Private plate.

  • High spec model with electric seats (front and rear), electric headrests
  • Electric sunroof / windows / mirrors.
  • Air con, central locking, Multi - function computer, Rear window blind.
  • Service History - bills for 1000's. This car was maintained by a major BMW garage and was maintained regardless of costs.
  • There are 4 virtually new Avon tyres fitted, which cost me over £400.

This is for sale as spares / repairs only. I bought this car for £3000 several years ago and used it for almost a year until one of the front suspension struts broke a spring mount, resulting in the base of the strut rubbing on the tyre.

The car was garaged and I fitted 2 new front suspension struts, shock absorbers and brake discs, which cost many hundreds from BMW. Unfortunatly I never got round to finishing the work as I decided to overhaul the front brake calipers at the same time, and due to the pressures of work it never got finished. The car has remained in the garage up until now. Unfortunatly, I now have to vacate the rented garage and so I have to have the car removed before the end of July. The bodywork was immaculate on the car when it was in use, still looks very good though it is very dusty. I can't remember offhand what the mileage is on the car, but I seem to remember it was fairly low. These cars have timing CHAINS rather than a belt, so it's not so much of a worry storing it for a long time without use.

This would be an ideal straightforward project for someone with a bit of time to get back on the road, or perfect for replacement body panels.

As a  winning bidder you will have to arrange removal from the garage at your cost. It is definitely not driveable / towable and has no brakes at the moment. The car is situated in Harrow, in North West London.

The brake calipers are now seized and will need replacement - they are easily available and cheap. I think that the brake-pressure sphere has been removed from under the bonnet for use on another vehicle (not the servo). These too are cheap to replace.

Bidding starts at £50. The new tyres alone are worth many times that. The car is also advertised in the paper, so the auction may be cancelled if I get an acceptable offer. Remember, the car HAS to be removed before the end of JULY.

Note that I have no idea what the state of the vehicle is at present and cannot guarantee the condition of any part of it for future use.

Please remember, a bid to buy is exactly that. If you have any questions about the car, please e-mail me ASAP. You are welcome to view the car if there's anything you wish to check.

My neighbours will hassle me if I take another scrapper, so maybe we should ask the seller if he will sell bits off it, rather than send the whole car to the crusher

I am thinking of the rear wings, but I would have difficulty storing large items at the moment!
By the sounds of it, he wants rid and that's it. Is it free to tow away?

It's free to tow away if you've got your own tow truck......

Graham says the car is too good to scrap, so surely it would take a little work to bring back into commission? And as you're burgeoning E23 experts, surely that would not take too long? I've got space on my driveway for it, if you want to have a workshop area......

colour sounds like it might be Sapphire (silver-blue metallic).

it is a major code violation to break up a tidy classic BM in this colour

suppose you want a warranty as well?

No wonder most of these things have been crushed.
Obviously 'E23 owners' and 'action' are not easy
bedfellows. Stop talking, and start 'doing'.

its all too common horsey

you see a potentially nice car on fleabay, not much info in the ad, poor pics, you send the seller a request for more info and then you wait, and wait, and wait, but reply don't come.

c'est la vie.

a lot of lazy people out there. how many filthy cars have you seen in ebay pics? too lazy to drive to local car wash? ebay pics taken at dusk, or midnight! how do these sellers ever attract bids?

Here's an action plan.

1. Hire a car trailer (£40)

2. Pick this thing up for free.

3. Strip all the useful bits off it - and there will be
loads. Three of you will get loads off in a day.
panels, cylinder head (getting rare now), rad, struts,
wheels and tyres, ECU. Forget restoring it, it's worth
more in bits.

4.) Weigh it in as scrap and get £40 back. All those
E23 bits for next to nothing. Just do it!

A shiny pound coin says you'll do nothing about it
and let it get crushed complete.

pound coin, ill put a tenner on this one, lads cylinder head alone will sell on ebay for at least £100 so you will get your money back. it would cost you nothing. ah well... calling hiab ...

NEWS UPDATE

The owner, Graham Ross, has now given me his mobile number, writing as follows:

"GRAHAM ROSS writes:

Those genuinely interested, please send me a PM for the number in full, and note the permitted time to call. The only exception to this is Andy, who I'll be updating by text.......

Now let's see if you'll commit yourselves

OmegaRob,

are you still into breaking smelly old E23s?

if you buy this one I'd like to buy the front legs plus other sundry bits.

I would take the whole car but my neighbours have erected a gibbet outside my house, to string me up by if I ever break another hulk.

I want a house in the country with no ****ing neighbours.

The Problem is I have just enough space for the one I've got, other wise I would jump at the chance, plus the fact I can't do anething for the 2 week's. Have no cash to go and get it and no space to keep bits. . Trailer is no problem mind.

Philip Could you not break it in the garage and move the 32 and 28 out side for a little bit. I am gutted that I can't take it. I have just terned down a early S-2a Land Rover great body and maks and number plate, It''s been way ed in, life is so depressing,

Did you not read my earlier postings? I said I didn't mind making a bit of space on the driveway beside my Six, but that depends on you fellas breaking the habit of a lifetime, asking for the seller's phone number, and arranging to have the car brought here .

This means that no money passes through my hands, which can't be all bad  Imagine all the paperwork I'd have to do to set up a "client account".....

I've just come back from France Ivan, I'm sorry, but I am not able to act that quickly due to other commitments in the AG household!
It's OK for Andy to say collect, do this and do that, and stop commenting on rusty e23's going to the crusher, but unless you have the space and time to commit to doing the collection and stripping, the car in the end once collected will just sit there, which will be no good for my marriage!
My B10 is going into the bodyshop soon and I have been busy getting the bits for that, so a whole car is not needed at this moment.
