Harry Bucklands scrapyard in Cheltenham have a
732 i with a superb beige leather interior. About £50
the lot. I wonder if anyone will go there tommorow
and buy it?? Probably not!

Sorry, but that 728i is junk and needs relieving of the
leather trim and crushing. They're no better on fuel
than a 735i and are dog slow.
Hiabboy still has a complete Buffalo leather interior
which will probably go into the crusher with the car.

Cheltenham, not Chelmsford Mark, a long way from me, Gloucestershire, towards Welsh Wales, way down the M4

Andy's right about Hiab's buffalo interior - why not buy it for the RB? would look really cool man

Andy is wrong about 728i's, they're OK to drive. I used to drive to Brands for those Sunday BMW and also Alfa race meets around 1992/3 in my Opalgrun 728i sharknose, cruising on the M25 ton up - Evenin' All. whats the statute of limitations on speeding?

Andy - I accuse you of liking Alfa Romeos!!!

But why have mince when there's steak in the fridge?

728i does 20 mpg, 735i does 19.6 .

Cloth, or leather with aircon? No the 728's weren't so
bad (shocking on fuel though) but for the same
amount of dough you put in the fuel tank you might
as well have something that really does GO and with
some nice toys. I had loads of 728i's as they were so
cheap to buy but after I drove a 735i auto (an old 3
speed W plater) I knew what I'd been missing.

A sobering thought; 728 carb 4 speed manual, 16
mpg overall

A tank full would cost you £80 and get you 300 miles.
One reason why there are none left ..........
Praise the Lord!

I meant to say......the first road test in the UK for an
E23 was a Cypress green 728, ULF 401R.
I dug into my stash of logbooks for crappers gone
by(!) and there it is! According to the V5 I bought it on
1st May 1986 and I can remember collecting it fro
Westbury car Auction. My god it was rubbish, it
cooked itself on the A4 near Calne and I really had to
nurse the poor old thing back. Pinking like hell it
was. The chasasis number is 5720008 which
means it was the seventh RHD E23 made.

According to DVLA though, it's had a change of
keeper on 4th April 2002 so maybe it's still about.
It was starting to rot pretty well too!

Quote 728i does 20 mpg, 735i does 19.6

motronic 735s are WAY better on juice than any 2.8 distributor M30.

like you've said many times, 2.8i are TERRIBLE on juice. lovely engine though.

I dragged my E28 528iA out of the garage today, I'm so looking fwd to my 17 mpg gentle sunday drives

Do you like the new 3 series then?

Not really woried about the colour. Although the sticker in the engine compartment says "Cosmos Blau", & the logbook says "Blue", my car is a silvery gray.

I'm certain it hasn't been resprayed (unless it was a very thourough job). I can only guess the paint has er "gone off" for want of a better description over the last 20 years.

By the way I have picked up four doors for an E23. I only want the OSR. So if anyone wants the others E-mail mailto:secretsales@aol.com - secretsales@aol.com .

are they the Burgundy doors from Dave in Leicester?

Sod's Law states the day after you sell the doors your car will get dented and need one of them - keep 'em in your parts hoard.

Are you gonna keep the 728i and sell the 735i or keep 'em both?

the 728i will look lovely when you've sorted the stove-in rear bumper.

Well, after having it as a bridal car and "borrowing" her for the weekend my neighbour was so impressed with the 732 she's off next door to make room for the 735 from Brum. Not a million miles away and I'll see her regularly.

Went to have a look at 735 today, needs more work than I had hoped for, due to being stood. Both rear doors starting to go at bottom, couple of tyres (Dreaded metric alloys) cracked on sides, slight blow on rear exhaust box, windows sticking. hole in front bumper.

Nothing of consequence, seller happy for me to crawl all over it, even lent me long handled mirror for underneath. Lots of toys to play with so I'm well happy, hoping to see it here in week when transport arranged so I can get stuck in.  Looks like 528 going back into daily use - what was that about "gently driving" and 17mpg Philip? Sounds like my "gentle driving"........

2.8 being non-motronic and lower geared than 3.2/3.5 is terrible on juice, a lovely motor though, as smooth as you like, with reasonable power.

drove 200 miles today to brighton & back in my 528i = 24.2 mpg overall.

country trips at low speed = 17 mpg  as you never get into lock up top.

congrats on the 735i

Hmmm, very interesting Mark! Give us a pm as to what sort of money you want for them - do they have tyres and if so any tread? Wendy says I can have her spare set of 15" bbs to finance 735 bits but they're off E30, won't fit either of mine.

Door locks ok, windows need tlc, good clean and lubrication should help. Oh, leccy aerial ok but not working, but I have a good bottom needing mast in garage.

Now I know that Mr E's comments normally upset all and sundry (free speach and all that) but this interior from a 745 has to be taken up. Be an excellent upgrade in any e23. I don't need it in mine, but it has to be saved.

Andy is it in grey or nutri?

Now THAT'S not a bad looking car. Well worth £50 I'd
say! The seller has been clever with the "Paypal
account required" to root out the cretins. 728i isn't
that bad. No nasty metrics, no switchable auto to go
wrong. So, anyone here going to buy it???

AG, why not buy it and swap all the bits from your
rotten Alpina across? It's be a lot cheaper and you'd
have abetter car at the end of it.

I think his Dad would have been smarter putting the
money into property though. £20'000 in 1985 equals
about £150'000 plus today. Imagine your old man
leaving you a white 728i in his will! You'd be looking
for a stout beam and a length of rope.

I wonder what the others got? A chocolate kettle
factory perhaps?

There was an episode of Miami Vice where the bad guy was chauffered arround in a white E23.

Needless to say Crocket kills him & shoots out the NSR window. Holigan!

I watched a film last night with George Clooney and
Nicole Kidman .
There was a good chase scene when Clooney and
Kidman were in a W140 (93 onwards) S Class Benz.
being chased by three black E28's. One by one the
BMW's were eliminated with the Merc T boning one
so hard it went over the top and flattened the roof.
Despite the '520' badge on the boot of one (no 'i') you
could hear the cranking of an M10 as one tried to get
out of the way of the Merc before if got totalled.

Good film as well.

The end is nigh !, the blue 745 is about to die , i 've got it all up and running and went for a spin in it today and it flies. Tomorrow the victim is supposed to be bringing me a bag of money , then the gas axe gets lit and it will be disembowelled. Its running gear is then off to aus to be fitted in a 3.0 cs!

Don't worry fellow e23 fiends the white 745 turd won't be fragged ,i'm going to go for the $350 350 bhp chip and wastegate mod and see how long the gearbox will last !.

Another Buffalo leather trim in the crusher then! I'll
come over and help you break it up.
This time next week, a 745i with Buffalo trim will be
in the baler, cubed, on a truck to Coventry then
shredded and tipped into the furnace. Leather
doesn't last long at 800 degrees does it?

Unless someone actually gives Hiab a few quid for
the trim and saves it.

No, thought not.

Next week:

"Hey, here's a cheap E23 on Ebay with leather
trim.........."

Hiab,

send your unwanted E23s to Lagos! The Nigerians love 'em.

they will send you some oil and a mail order bride in return.

No really Hiab, Tony sent his e23 to the crusher, but the crusher boys sold it to the Nigerians who patch 'em up and use 'em. As Govt limos (possibly).

Can you remind us nutters one final time, the colours of each of your buffalo sets please.

the manual set is of interest to me if the fronts have those dinky little armrests.

Mark should grab one of the electric sets. Keep his cream elec rear seat and install the buffalo fronts!

Sorry Phillip the manual interior has no front armrests, is dark grey with stitched leather door handles. The car has done 50000 miles, the seats are undamaged/not worn but are faded at the top of the rear seat. The electric interior is an executive model with full leather door panels, consoles etc fixed back seat and is nutria brown. The memory trim is a dark grey interior with full leather consoles door panels etc and a fixed back seat . I want £100 each interior or there off to china !

hiab, do you know if armrests on their brackets can be attached to the non-armrest seats? people say its an easy retro fit.

Philip why don't you get the trim with all the door cars and consols, Would be mutch better in the ss than cream with the blue cloth door cards, I would buy but have not the space it is bad enouth with 4 doors, can't keep it high and dry

I don't thinks buffalow would go with my creem trim, and I like my working electric rears.

Just hear that sound of tearing metal and splintering
glass as the jaws of the crusher close in on the 745i.

Even I might be swayed by that S plate 733i. I would
have thought £99 is more than enough for it but it
(almost) wants saving. They used to go like a rocket,
3 speed auto, manual heater controls and the clock
in the centre of the heater fan dial. What a great old
smoker - and (thankfully) rare.

The colour is Granatrot. It wants rescuing - as
worthless and useless as a 1978 733i is, it would
be a pity to see that die.

Hmmmmm...........

what good is and engine and gearbox less 745 to me then. now if it were all there then maybe, because I do Fancy a 745 if it were going to the scrapper to rescue it but the price would have to be right, and I have me old e23 to fix yet and when the steering stuff come to 300 quid ,and 25 quid for a wheel Bering. I must be mad but its sooooo nice and I am soooo stupid

So if a 3 speed auto 733 go's well Duse a 3 speed 735 go better

Andy why, how do you stop this manic depression on e23's. It's a good job I don't have space

It's called humour :-)

I've had more E23's than anyone else here! Eight in
total and I drove and used every one of them - into
the ground
Four were driven into the scrapyard by me when they
were finished, two were sold on and two were
destroyed in the 'Lock Stock' spin off TV Series 4-5
years ago. About £140'000 worth, dead.
When I had them, there were plenty about so I'm not
guilty!

I have cream leather door cards for the SS and I like the cream leather with the blue carpets.

Would still love to have one of hiabs buffalo sets though, as my lounge suite is getting knackered

you could erect a shed in your back garden & fill it with E23 bits!

Andy, I expected you to really slag the 733i, and now you wanna save it and sell it to a nutter for £575 after you've put scrunched up newspaper & a skim of filler over the rust holes

I figure that a 733i that someone has owned and

never be worth anything but for £100 I'll have a go.

if he's spent a fortune in parts and repairs etc, why leave the need for a new exhaust as the last stumbling block to an Mot? And why sell it on without one? Something else wrong with it?

could be an innocent reason AG. could have replaced the car, and simply lost interest in it.

as you say, why not sort the exhuast and sell the car with a new MOT for £300 to 400 ish?

looks v.nice in the pics - you can't see them from work, hee hee

Hi all, been off camping in Wales, last in a tent around 30 years ago.

New E23 735 arrived safely tonight, put to bed and ready forgood check over tomorrow. Spookily the neighbour who has the 732 has taken a fancy to Wendy's 320, which would give him a silver E23 732 and a white E30 and me a silver E23 735 plus a white E28 528.

Think I've converted him to the world of BMW! I noticed Rob had a lot of stuff on ebay, I'm watching some of it while plotting how to get down to visit Philip and Mark.

Guess I'll be cleaning Metric wheels up in the hope of rehoming them if Mark still has the BBS's!

We're not kidding. We've got 6 lined up for a race at
Essex Arena in January - we need another 4 to make
it a 'one make' banger race. Our team is called 'The
Executives' and if we don't get another four E23's
(unlikely) we're going against 6 W123/126 Mercs.

Probably going to use a Ford V6 engine in the E23 -
it mounts right back out of harm's way - one good
punt and the distributor cap on an M30 will be
smashed. The 745i is the first one to be built
followed by Pete's 735i Executive. We've also got a
rough LHD carbed 730 and a very tidy B reg 728i
manual :-)

One 10 lap race and a destruction derby at the end,
last car that still moves wins! We're allowed to tie two
together for the final.
