Guys,

Our next event is now CONFIRMED. I know it was mentioned in other threads but now its official. Hope to get the flyers out in the next week.

It is a run from Horse and Jockey (meet up by 11am) to Clonmel and back - which will include an economy competition (€5 entry fee for prizes), a stop for lunch, a visit to the Motor Hertiage Museum and a prize giving ceremony. The route will be self navigated using provided tulip instructions and will be along scenic and historic roads.

This is an action packed day so I hope all can make it!

Horse and Jockey is on the main Cork road - more of a crossroads then a village, but it is marked with signposts. I think it is just inside the Tipp border.

I  hope to be there too.

Eamo, will the M3 be joining us?

Not to sound too thick, is this place going to be obvious from the road - esp. if travelling at the speeds required to keep up with Killian!

On the Wicklow run, Who got to each of our stops first? Who got back to the Spawell first on the way back? I know the memory is failing me, but IIRC there were only two red E30's involved in that days fun n frolics and we KNOW that it wasn't the other one?????

Just because I was leading doesn't mean that speed was required to keep up with me. I distinctly remember being overtaken by a hiker at one point!

Guys, how long will it take to get to the H&J from Dublin ?

Posted By: kdevitt

It'll take about an hour and a half or so....

Posted By: b318isp

Depends in Dublin you are, but I am giving myself 2.5 hours.

Posted By: kbannon
Date Posted: 04-July-2003 at 11:06
2.5 hours - are you planning on driving behind a red e30? (and NOT mine!!)
Do you go down to M50 or do you cut down via celbridge towards clane & Naas directly (quicker)

Well its takes me about 3.5 hours to get to Millstreet in Cork, and Horse and Jockey is under half way from what I recall...

I just turn off at the Red Cow and go straight out - not much traffic unless its the evening....

Posted By: kbannon
Date Posted: 04-July-2003 at 11:22
IIRC it suits you better though Ken to go M50 but Dunshaughlin to Naas say would be quicker going straight down rather than towards M50.
(which reminds me I must go there and get my tax! )

That's where I work (Rathfarnham & Inchicore). Actually I think the M50 is a quicker route off peak from Dunshaughin - higher average speed. I've gone to Kildare town, Punchestown, Naas, etc. a few times and they are similar enough timewise.

Like here?
Given that we need to be @ the http://www.countytipperary.com/Tipperary_pubs_restaurants.htm - horse & Jockey for an 11am start and it could take an hour to get there from newbridge I reckon about 9:30.
Is there anywhere in Newbridge to get a decent breakfast?

By the way the maps below were got from http://www.multimap.com - www.multimap.com (not a bad service!)

You can get a 'not-to-bad' breakfast (fry-up) in the local Tesco store, loads of parking. If interested here is how you get there.

Assuming that you are on the M7, exit at the Curragh fly-off.
Go right at the top of the fly-off, head towards Newbridge.
*This road passed the roundabouts heading into Newbridge is a 30MPH, keep to the limit, the COPS love to catch people here !!
Keep driving straight; you will go through a set of traffic lights (Texaco garage on your left).
Once passed these lights, Tesco is about 300m on your right.

Derek - it can take me about 30 minutes to get to Naas (from Leixlip via Celbridge) and the curragh is about another 10 on that.

dunno but Im stopping there for a splash & dash - their phone no is 045 436472 - I may even phone them on my way down (around 8:50) and place my order.
Newbridge to Thurles is 60-65 miles (see map below - although unsure of exact spot for H&J).

actually looking at the AA routeplanner it is 62.7 miles from newbridge to thurles and takes 1 hour & 24 minutes.

I reckon that on a Sunday morning it would take about an hour.

**** Slight change of plan ****
Not meeting at Horse + Jockey, now meeting at Urlingford Texaco filling station on Cork side. Ger O'Conner reckons better place to meet. Same time as before. You can call Ger at 086 2659211 if any question.

Urlingford is closer to Dublin so should make easier to get to

I can't guarentee getting to meet at the Curragh as I am dependant on another chap getting to me!

If I'm near the Curragh slip road before 9:30 I'll come off to have a look for people - if not, I'll continue on - straight to Urlingford I guess.

Ian, will someone be at the H&J to redirect to Urlingford? I think Ger said there would.

Good maps btw Killian.

Hello Everyone

Gerard O'Connor here

I have joined the forum at last!

Now down to the important business

The Economy run start is at "Josephines" Restaurant, coffee bar and Texaco petrol station on the Cork side of Urlingford. It is on the Right hand side if coming from Dublin. Urlingford is 24 miles from the N8 exit from the M7 at Portlaoise.

Please come in good time before 11 if you are there early say after 10 I will start you early.

Remember even though this may be an economy run to finsih in good time a normal driving pace will be needed!

You will have an expected finishing time based on your start time. It will not be an unreasonable pace as it based on the my girlfriend driving the route in her Yaris!. She was amazed by the scenery she saw (and some of the roads I have selected!)

See you all there

Apols all for not turning up. I was heading down when I ran into some trouble. The back box fell the car! I had the exhaust rubbers changed during the week so I think that may have something to do with it. When the exhaust hit the ground, it dented one of the pipes so therefore I couldnt push it back on. Had to wait for the AA to come out and take it off. WHile I was waiting, I noticed the electric fan wasn't cutting ! Double trouble. So I decided to head home just in case. I didnt want to risk siting in traffic with no way if cooling the car! Anyhows its back with the garage and I should have it back tomorrow evening.

Sorry I missed it.

PS Brendan
I had the glove box with me. I will be in the liffey valley area next saturday if you want to hook up.

Derek, What are they checking? I going to have mine checked over before going down to the Alps and have been looking for a checklist. I had thought that the Inspection 1 would be the thing to go for but then thought it was a bit over the top considering it had an Oil service less than 2k miles ago.

Sorry Eamo, I can't. I have to squeeze a spin down to Ken Devitt, a service & new brake pads for the car (for the Connemarra trip) and minding the kids while the missus goes to the beauticians (yes I'm serious!). I also have to pick up my mum that evening too.

If you are going to Connemarra I'll take up the offer then!!!

Thanks,

B!
