Any idea how much these would cost to relace and how easy they are to get hold of and fit!

they are slightly different pre and post the 82 revisions. The old type can be made to fit the newer, but not the other way around without welding up the indicator repeater holes etc.

They are slightly more common SH than hen's teeth; some people will break a car for the wings alone and turn a profit- they can go for 150-200GBP each in good shape, vs 400-500GBP new.

Fitting is easy enough, but invariably the inner wing and the rear splash guard need welding somewhere too.

Unfortunately you need to remove the indicator assemblies and headlights to get the wings off; this usually results in broken indicators- I used a Dremel tool on the bolts rather than completely wreck mine.

cheers

If there is no rot along the top edge, you can repair
the rusty bit at the front above the bumper. As long as
all the rot is cut out and the repair properly seam
welded and painted/Waxoyled from behind a decent
repair will last for years.

£1000 for a pair of wings? Yeah, righto. Someone at
BMW is on hard drugs when an E30 wing is about
£75.

its because they are not BMW wings per se- they are Karmann parts, and made in batches etc.... no-one has tooled up to make pattern parts successfully....

the price of exclusivity..... (or a right rip-off....?)

cheers

Motormec's latest advertised price for an E24 wing panel is £421.66!!!

It's all down to economies of scale. Same with TRX tyres - there's no reason they should be £200 a pop.

However, to put the cost of E24 wings into perspective, I'm told Merc W107 SL wings (1971 - 1989) are £750 each front or rear. A Pagoda SL grill is £2500.

Who says the Germans don't have a sense of humour!
